Thanks to your support, it's been an eventful few months for Sonic Peacemakers...We made a bit of music history in September when South Asia's musical phenomenon Atif Aslam from Pakistan performed with Lanny Cordola and four ex-members of the legendary Guns N' Roses in New York City (See link to the video in this report). Atif dedicated his performance to the victims of 9/11, singing the Pink Floyd Classic "Wish You Were Here" for an audience of 3,000 people at the Road Recovery Benefit at Best Buy Theater in Times Square. While in New York, Atif also worked with Lanny and Todd in the studio to record vocal tracks for the highly anticipated album "The Dreamer Awakes." Back in LA, Lanny Cordola continued recording tracks for "The Dreamer Awakes" at the studio of former Guns N' Roses guitarist Gilby Clarke and, along with Sonic Peacemakers supporters Donovan Leitch (son of 60s pop sensation Donovan) and Michelle Coltrane (daughter of jazz icon John Coltrane), met with Bono of U2 after the Bill Clinton gala at the Hollywood Bowl. We're hoping to have Bono onboard with Sonic Peacemakers in 2012.
Todd Shea visited Mirpurkhas and The Thar Desert in Pakistan's Sindh Province to meet his mobile medical team which has been working in the flood emergency. In a collaboration with IPAC (Institute for the Preservation of Art & Culture), Todd brought Sonic Peacemakers funds to traditional folk musicians and their families who have been displaced by the floods. Todd also performed for children in the villages where his team set up medical camps (Photos included with this report).
Sonic Peacemakers collaborated with Juvenile Dignitaries, IPAC, Kuch Khaas and The International Youth Festival & Conference to produce two successful flood relief concerts in Islamabad featuring South Asia's hottest rock band Qayaas and Coke Studio stars Arieb Azhar and QB. The concerts raised $2,500 for Comprehensive Disaster Response Services (CDRS) for its joint mission with SHINE Humanity to help Sindh flood victims in their time of need (Photos included with this report). In January, Sonic Peacemakers hopes to complete the recording for "Hands Together," a Humanitarian anthem written by Lanny Cordola to inspire us all to remember and support suffering children wherever they are (think an uptempo "We Are The World" type of collaboration featuring Atif Aslam and Slash from Guns N' Roses and dozens of singers and musicians from Pakistan and America). The music tracks have been recorded, but we need to raise another $30,000 in order to complete the song and video. Please support the making of this song, as it has all the potential to be the breakout hit that launches Sonic Peacemakers into a Worldwide sensation that can raise millions for Sonic Peacemakers future collaborations and Humanitarian projects all over the planet. Thanks for everything YOU have done to help us get this far! We're almost there!! And be on the lookout out for bigger Sonic Peacemakers concerts and events in the Spring of 2012 !!!
Sonic Peacemakers Atif Aslam, Lanny Cordola and Todd Shea got together in July to perform together during Atif Aslam's U.S. summer tour. Lanny has set up recording sessions at Gilby Clarke's studio to continue work on the conceptual album "The Dreamer Awakes" and will then go back to Pakistan with Todd and Atif to record in Lahore. Greetings Dear Friends and Supporters,When the Pakistan Flood Disaster began last summer, The Sonic Peacemakers "Peace Through Music" project was put on hold. The relief efforts kept Sonic Peacemakers co-founders Todd Shea and Lanny Cordola busy for months, with Todd leading the disaster response of SHINE HUMANITY and Lanny visiting Pakistan twice to help deliver supplies, compassion, smiles, music and gifts for children with fellow Sonic Peacemakers Atif Aslam and Noori. Though we were able to produce several videos and teasers in 2010 (listed below), we need new funding to finish a documentary film and the first album, a collection of songs entitled "The Dreamer Awakes" with Atif Aslam and other prominent Pakistani musicians, ex-members of Guns 'n' Roses, The Beach Boys and other renowned western musicians. This epic collaboration is inspired by the works of Karachi-based poet Beo Rana Zafar and hopes to give a voice to the poverty stricken children of Pakistan. The first Sonic Peacemakers documentary film will highlight Lanny Cordola's amazing journeys to Pakistan, where he creates music with awesome and diverse musicians and artists, tours disaster affected areas, experiences Pakistan's amazing cultural richness, meets with everyday people in remote villages and big cities, and discovers the wonderful people of Pakistan who are too often unseen and misunderstood by the outside world. And perhaps most importantly, Lanny and Sonic Peacemakers will show the world Pakistan's warm, friendly, loving, inquisitive, beautiful and brilliant children who are Pakistan's hope and future.Sonic Peacemakers future plans include produce recordings and concerts in an ongoing series of musical collaborations, starting with Pakistani and American musicians and eventually bringing together musicians from other countries to build bridges of peace, erase misconceptions and support health, education and development projects that help families and children who need them most. This spiritual, social and musical initiative has the potential to transform hate into love and darkness into light, ignorance into empowerment. There is so much we can accomplish together by making this project a reality. To make a tax-deductible contribution to Sonic Peacemakers, please visit:http://www.globalgiving.org/projects/peace-through-music/
