Q3 2013 Report

During August we averaged 13 and September over 14 families served per service day at our food pantry.  In September this equated to 173 families (413 adults and 302 children) who received 12,700 pounds of food.  This was a record month for number of families served.  The results of this record can be seen in the large empty spaces on our shelves.  We have been scrambling to purchase some of the staples missing from our shelves such as rice and beans.

With the beginning of the school year we again are providing weekend food assistance to school children and their families in need from McKinley (30 kids) and Springville (10 kids) elementary schools through our backpack program.  We also continue to assist local families with emergency rent or utility assistance.  In September we assisted two families with rent and two families with utility assistance.

Your help in our continuing mission to help those in need in our community is very much appreciated!

Q2 2013 Report

During May and June of 2013 the number of clients using our food pantry has increased to an average of 13 clients helped per service day.  During June that equated to a total of 157 families (399 adults and 257 children) who receive over 11,000 pounds of food.  To date in July we have maintained similar service numbers.  Recently many of the staples such as rice and cereal have been unavailable through the Oregon Food Bank.  We have been forced to purchase such items from general retailers at much greater expense.  We also continue to purchase fresh milk for our clients which is important, espescially for those families with young children.

During a summer heat spell one of our volunteers entered the pantry and discovered the inside temperature had risen to 100 degrees.  This breakdown of our air conditioning unit was obviously another unexpected expense.

We continue to give rent and utility assistance to those in our community facing housing emergencies.  We were able to help one young mother who recently gave birth, but required surgery due to subsequent complications.

Thank you all so much for supporting us with your continuing generosity!

Q1 2013 Report

The significant increase in the number of clients served by our food pantry has leveled off over the past several months.  In March and April we served an average of 11 families per service day.  For April we served a total of 148 families including 353 adults and 260 children, providing them with a total of 10,900 lbs of food.  We also now serve 41 hungry kids with weekend meals through McKinley and Springville Elementary Schools.  We continue to help clients in our local area with limited rent and utility assistance.  Several of these clients have significant medical problems including fighting cancer and other deadly or debilitating diseases.

Thank you all so much for your continuing financial support, which is crucial to our continuing mission!
