In the past few months we have been making contacts with a couple of foundations and a local cement manufacturer to get some support for our plan to help with the construction of the building for the Marion PS in Grand Anse.
We have received some positive responses from the Digicel Foundation which has asked us to submit a proposal with our scope of works and budget for consideration for one of their grants for Haiti redevelopment. The cement manufacturer has also indicated that they may be willing to donate some building materials to the school.
To date we have contacted 3 local contractors for estimates for the construction of a enclosed structure where the students can hold their classes. As we described before, they are currently studying under what is effectively a tent with no walls or even partitions for the different classes.
Our goal is also to hold a Haiti Fundraiser this fall to raise more money to get our project started. We appreciate your support to date and please share our feedback with your friends and family as our small individual donors still provide the largest support for our schools. Again with our collective efforts we can deliver this building for the children.
Thank you,
Shashamane Haiti Team

Inspired by 503 students who brave rain and the scorching heat to attend class under exposed elements because of a falling roof, Shashamane Sunrise joined the Global Giving Open Challenge to raise money for the re-construction of Ngora Okoboi Primary School. This is the school in Ngora, Uganda that these children attend.
Thanks to your contributions, we met our open challenge and raised nearly $6,000 (minus Global Giving administration fees) towards our $25,000 target.
In mid-February, Global Giving disbursed the funds to Shashamane Sunrise. Our first priority is to replace the roof. Thankfully, the construction will begin before the rainy season, which means that by the time the rains start, the children will be sitting nice and dry in roofed classrooms.
You did it! We are excited for the children and we will share updates and pictures with you as the work progresses until the project is completed. We have attached a timeline to our report, just so that you can follow the progress of the construction.
We are breaking up the construction in two phases. The first phase will enable us to roof half of the block. The timeline you see is for the construction of the first phase. The construction will start by mid- March and is scheduled to last for 2-3 months. We hope to reach our initial fundraising target for the roof which is $7,500. However, additional re-construction of the substructure is needed for the proper installation of part of the roof. This includes casting of the ring beam and building of the roofing courses and gable walls to support the new roof. This additional work will bring the total to $12,800.
We've only just begun, so please share our story with your friends, if your employer gives matching funds for employee donations, please share our story with your employer. This is another way to help the children.
Ngora Okoboi Primary School and Shashamane Sunrise thank you for your continued help.
Shashamane Uganda Team
