Global Family Village - June 2013 Update

Get to know all about Suman in the next issue!

Greetings from Bungamati Village, Nepal where Global Family Village children and community-based project are thriving, thanks to your support!

We are very excited to share with you our latest news of the launching of the Bungamati Home-Stay program in partnership with the Cooperative Society of Bungamati!   Local farmer-women were trained to open up their Newari homes for tourists seeking an authentic stay in an ancient Nepali village home. This project provides income for the community, as well as helping to support the children’s home as ten percent of the overnight fees go to support their Bungamati Family Home for orphans and disenfranchised children!

So far 10 women have graduated from the Hospitality program and now have their homes available for tourists! They have hosted the first round of guests, who raved about the experience: staying in a Newari village, connecting with the community, visiting the school and family home; seeing first hand where their contributions were going from their homestay fees. This marks a significant step towards sustainability!

Now, our newest projects in development include partnering with the community to develop a café and an art gallery to showcase the local woodworking artisans. Stay tuned for developments in this latest community endeavor.

Our existing family of seven children and two “mothers” are doing well. We are continuing to strengthen the children’s sense of family by partnering them with elders in the community who will be their “grandparents”; this also strengthens the community and enriches the lives of the elders. We are continuing our work with the children proving them education, family, health care, and nutrition.

We need your support to continue our work and to replicate our innovative model of orphan care in other regions in Nepal. There are thousands of orphaned and abandoned children who need your help in bringing Global Family village to their community, giving orphans a family, home, education and community. Please donate! Participate in our upcoming matching grant day June 12, 2013. On this day, Partner Rewards Bonus Day, donations made through GlobalGiving will be matched up to $1,000 per donor at 40%!! Thank you for your support!

Spring 2013: GFV's ECD Program in Nepal is Growing

Namaste friends and supporters:

The ECD program at the Tri-Ranta Cooperative School is growing!

There are now 65 children enrolled in the ECD program at the Tri-Ranta Cooperative School. With this growth comes the need for continued teacher training and additional educational materials. Our classrooms are cold and dark in winter and the children need a safe outdoor play area.

Many parents in the community are seeing the benefits of our holistic early childhood development program and wish to enroll their children. We do not want to let these families down!

We are very proud of Global Family Village-Nepal’s innovative approach to creating sustainable positive change in the community, and specifically for orphaned and abandoned children.

Early childhood development makes such a difference in the lives of children, please donate today!

We greatly appreciate your continued partnership and friendship. Thank you for your support.

Global Family Village - March 2013 Update

Creating family-centered homes in supportive communities!

Namaste Friends and Supporters:

Our family of eight children is thriving and becoming more and more a part of the local community. In February, our partners, the Bungamati Cooperative Society, hired Rajan Maharajan from the community to oversee the activities of the Family Home and interact with the children. He keeps the children company when they have their meals, plays games and does art projects with them. This integration of the home within the community is critical for the social development of the children.

Developing opportunities for income-generating activities to ensure long-term sustainability!

Bungamati is famous for it's wood crafts and is home to many master woodcarvers. GFV is seeking funding to assist the community with the creation of a gallery to showcase the work of these artists. A portion of the income generated from the gallery will go back to the family home, thus ensuring it's sustainability and the long-term success of the children.

We are very proud of Global Family Village-Nepal's innovative approach to creating sustainable positive change in the community, and specifically for orphaned, abandoned and children in need.

March 13th is a bonus day! This means Global Giving will match your donations at 30% up to $1000 per donor! There is $50,000 available in matching funds and matching will last until funds run out. Matching will begin at 6:00 am PST!

We greatly appreciate your continued partnership and friendship, and thank you for your support!
