Recycled Tire Sandals for the children of Kay Angel Orphanage!

Kay Angel Orphanage
Kay Angel Orphanage

In the past 3 months, your support and love has provided 77 orphan and street children with recycled tire sandals!  It is hard to explain the look on a child’s face when they receive a sandal that they know was made in Haiti from tires collected off their streets.  The kids are literally in awe at the thought of recycling and using something old to make something new and beautiful.  It has been a privilege to watch this reaction.

In this GlobalGiving report, we would like to highlight an organization who has gone above and beyond just providing sandals to kids in need.  The {Heart} Change Project is an organization that is interested in changing hearts, living a life of purpose and understanding that one small act of kindness can change someone’s entire life and future.  They held a fundraiser on behalf of the children of Kay Angel Orphanage in Jacmel, a home that cares for young children with HIV/AIDS and other disabilities. ‚Ä®With the money raised, the The {Heart} Change Project was able to support economic development and sustainable change in Haiti by purchasing new sandals from Rebuild Globally for the children.  This allowed both projects, Kay Angel and Rebuild Globally to do what they do best in Haiti and work towards a health and sustainable Haiti.

Thank you to The Heart Change Project, Kay Angel Orphanage and all the individuals who have supported this project and REBUILD Globally.  Together we are able to make lasting impacts in the lives of Haitian earthquake survivors and children in need.

 In solidarity,

Julie

Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for our New Location!

Sandal Artisans
Sandal Artisans

Due to the incredible growth REBUILD Globally has experienced over the past year and a very generous donation from WorldwideModular construction, we are pleased to report that we happily grew out of our first location! On July 8, 2011, we had the honor to host an official ribbon cutting ceremony at our new shop.  There were nearly 300 people in attendance with representation from Haitian businesses, government officials, volunteers, family and friends.  It is a bit surreal to see one of our dreams turn into reality and so quickly, but this has inspired us to work even harder to reach our other goals.   We know with the support of people like you, each one is possible.  In our new shop, we are now able to provide partner organizations space, produce more quantity and produce a better quality sandal, but most importantly, when funding is available– we will be able to employ more artisans!

Thank you so much for your contribution to REBUILD Globally.  Your gift is literally transforming the lives of individuals.  You are the fuel that keeps this fire burning.  And with a little more of that same love, we can turn this flame into a brushfire!

With love from Haiti,

Julie

Orphans Receive New Recycled Tire Sandals

group photo after sandal delivery
group photo after sandal delivery

When we started the project in February, REBUILD globally was aware there was a need for sandals at several orphanages in Port-au-Prince.  By giving to this project, you have helped fill that need.  The sandals the orphans received were not just a want, they were a need.  By wearing sandals it can reduce the risk of these children contracting parasites and worms in the future. Not to mention protecting their feet from the treacherous streets of Haiti.

Not only have 20 orphans received new sandals due to your generosity, but also, together with your help, REBUILD was able to donate the sandals and employ 8 artisans.  In the process of making the sandals, we are able to provide living wage employment opportunities for Haiti's most vulnerable populations to foster self-sufficiency and independent living; and reduce waste in Haiti through creative re-purposing of tires.  We have turned old tires into new sandals.

Thank you again for your donation.  We look forward to helping employ more people and give more sandals to orphans.  One way we can do this is by you sharing REBUILD with your friends and family.  Please visit our Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/#!/REBUILDglobally and 'like us' and suggest us to your friends too!

With love from Haiti,

Julie
