Jouden Tout Moun!

Dear Supporters,

Thanks to your continued support for REBUILD Globally. We have continued to be a growing influence in the Port-au-Prince area.  It is your belief in sustainable development that has allowed us to add additional projects that not only educate our artisans, street children and the community at large; but has enabled us to combat an issue that we face daily in Haiti: food insecurity.

With the help of some amazing volunteers and generous donors, REBUILD has recently completed our Gardening Initiative!  At "Jouden Tout Moun" which in Creole means "Everybody's Garden", we are growing a variety of vegetables, starches and fruits and currently constructing a small out door kitchen to teach our Apprentices and street children proper nutrition and cooking methods.   Aside from a fresh source of produce for healthy lunches, we are also hiring on a new person for a full-time cooking position!   This will help us provide food for our artisans and those in need in our immediate community; and we're providing one more person with a living wage job. Check out this video to see the process of building and implementing our new initiative!

Our apprenticeship initiative has given our artisans the opportunity to become role models and instructors to the boys in our apprentice initiative. The boys spend time each week with an artisan who helps to train them. Hopefully these boys will be artisans too! It's with your support that we can guarantee this opportunity to these young men!

Be sure to stay connected with our efforts by liking our facebook page and following our YouTube channel. Also, you can continue to support the artisans by representing their work and purchasing a pair of sandals from our new etsy store!

Thank you!

RG Employment directly affects Orphans of Poverty

By supporting REBUILD Globally, you have truly become part of our family. It is with friends, family and people like you that help make a difference in people’s lives every day.

Le Main Tendre orphanage currently has 36 children from the age of under 1 year to 16 years old, with a majority of them being under the age of 4.  There are several pairs of siblings within the group even 2 sets of twins!  Even though these children are living in an orphanage, the majority of them have living parents. However, their parents feel that they are not in a position (mostly financially) to look after them. We have found that on average nearly 70% of children in Haiti are orphans of poverty and not parentless orphans.  And sadly, without employment, parents have no means to even feed their children so they make the agonizing decision to put them in homes.  Le Main Tendre encourages contact between the children and their birth-families, and often parents will visit as much as possible and on special occasions such as birthdays etc.

Le Main Trendre has been an orphanage since long before the earthquake in January 2010.  A number of NGO's have worked in partnership to improve the infrastructure at the orphanage: a medium-term structure has been erected where the temple first stood and the living quarters have been improved dramatically. REBUILD Globally has been able to help this by providing a pair of sandals specifically made to fit for each child in the orphanage. This contributes towards reducing the risk of the children being infected by intestinal worms, which can cause major health problems.

Additionally, we have been able to host the children at the Caribbean Lodge for a swim day party.  The children and the orphanage are now a part of our growing family.  Thank you for helping us help the children of Haiti.

In solitude,

Julie

REBUILD: Making a Difference Locally

BETA Baby Playing with REBUILDERS
BETA Baby Playing with REBUILDERS

Dear Supporters,

I am pleased to announce the recent donation of more than 300 pairs of REBUILDER sandals to Central Floridians in need via the organizations first Flop Drop initiative.Through the generous support of the Central Florida community, REBUILD Globally has been able to employ seven full-time Haitian men and women to manufacture the organizations handcrafted REBUILDER sandals. The Flop Drop event looks to give back to the community by providing local nonprofits with REBUILDER sandals which will be distributed to citizens in need.

REBUILD Globally would not be in operation today without the unwavering support of the Central Florida community. This support translates to employment for Haitian men and women.  The result of which has been truly life-changing. With previous experience working in a local Orlando Non-Profit, it has been very evident the strong desire to keep resources locally, rather than simply sending resources and funding abroad. I, feel torn to do both. I believe this is something that makes RG unique, making a difference on both spheres.

The Haitian men and women employed by RG, having been given so much by Central Florida, wanted to do something to show their gratitude and appreciation.  They wanted to give back to the men, women and children most in need here, in Central Florida. With existing relationships with selected several Central Florida nonprofit agencies, RG was able begin contacting agencies to receive free REBUILDERS sandals for their clients.

The first of these “flop drops” was conducted at the BETA Center in November. BETA Center is a school and home to teenage mothers in Central Florida. BETA Center aims to

  • Provide a safe and accessible place to help stabilize families in crisis.
  • Meet the critical needs of pregnant and parenting teens with comprehensive services and a holistic approach.
  • Provide developmentally stimulating child care for at-risk infants/toddlers
  • Strengthen families by educating and supporting youth and parents.
  • Overcome the resistance of high-risk clients to open the door to change.

Additional flop drops are planned at several local agencies in December and January.

Together we are able to make lasting impacts in the lives of Haitian earthquake survivors and children in need all over the world.

 In solidarity,

Julie
