Arus is responsible for the project in Kotayk.

On January 31, 2015 at a meeting took place in "Noyan Tapan" media center for summarizing the first stage and launching the second stage of the project “Providing education for 150 children in Armenia", implemented by Zartonk-89 NGO and   "Young Journalists Online Center".   Totally, there were 30 representatives from Yerevan and the 10 regions of Armenia at the meeting.
We welcomed the regional working groups and represented the advancementsof Zartonk-89 in becoming a superstar in GlobalGiving, in which GlobalGiving staff and regional working groupshad significant role.
The  responsible  of the project presented the overallprocess of the project: its implementation, results and also shared their experience with others, discussing the future plans. For the effective implementation of the project the first prize was given to the working group of the community of Khor Virap,  Ararat region, the second prize was given to the working group of the community of Vanadzor,  Lori Region, and the third prize was  given to the working group of the community of  Arapi,   Shirak region.

At the first stage of the program from YJOC working groups only six regions were included in the project and then four more were added, Armavir, Tavush, Kotayk and Syunik regions also joined that program and  got financial and technical support, as well as advice from Zartonk -89:   thus, they can start the implementation of the project in four regions.
During  the implemation of the program the participants obtained  experience, skills and knowledge .

As we have mentioned above, during the meeting the representatives of six regions shared their experience with others, gave them advice. The six participating communities received financial and technical resources to continue the program.

The meeting  passedin a warm atmosphere  and the representatives of regions  went with  enthusiasm to carry out thisimportant project.

Here is how the project is being implemented in Hrazdan Community, Kotayk Region.

I am Arus Nersisyan, the coordinator of 'Young Journalists online Center' in Kotayk Region. At present we are implementing 'Providing Education for 150 children in Armenia' in our region, at primary school, number two. First of all let me mention that the implementation of this project requires devotion, love and hard work. Of course if you love what you do it becomes easier to do hard and valuable work as well.

When I was presented the project, I was very excited, although I had experience in working with children. I was afraid of not being able to meet that challenge, as this work is both obligatory and responsible; we deal with teenagers who are very fragile. Teenagers generally are very close and complex, plus psychological, social family problems, therefore working with them becomes more difficult. Together with my team we could create and develop firm, warm and friendly relations. We are 15 in our team. The children were chosen with teachers help and advice. Each of them has their own, unique story, their problems, difficulties which are revealed in their hardly smiling eyes.

When organizing our trainings we took into account everything for changing their unhappy routine, organizing different games, competitions every day and chose the winners for each day.

At first children were shy and uneasy, they avoided giving answers, speaking but during the lessons we succeeded in having free discussions and broad talks.

I was very proud when one of our teachers evaluated our work, noticing that one of the most shy and complex child was then very confident and freely expressed his opinion and ideas. Our teacher noted and valued contribution in that. Everytraining revealed something new among the children. Per instance, Erik drew very well, but never showed his drawings, because of being shy. He drew a nice picture for us, won a prize; he was the winner of the day. The next day we went for an excursion to a museum. Many of the children were there for the first time. Erik examined all the exponents, pictures and was very active in asking many questions. Then he told us that dreamt of painting and wished for a reality that one day his pictures also would be worthy in finding their place at the museums.

Next day one of our participants, Vahe gave me a piece of paper. He asked me not to show it to anyone, just to read what was written there and express my personal opinion. It turned out that Vahe wrote poems. So we decided to organize a poetry competition the next day. Besides the prize, the winner had a possibility of printing his poems in one of local journals.

I can talk a lot about our trainings and we do enjoy whatever we do. I want to sum up my thoughts with one of our participant Vahe's words, who used to be shy and talk very little, 'lessons at school give us the most important thing, i. e. knowledge and friends'. These values are ours, our achievements and no one can steal them from us.

Progress in 6 regions in Armenia

Arina during the classes
Arina during the classes

The implementation of “Providing Education for 150 children in Armenia” project had great success in 6 regions of Armenia ( Aragatsot, Shirak , Lori, Ararat, Gegharkunik and Vayots Dzor).

We have organized competition among 6 communities to provide the effectiveness of the project. In the result the working groups of Vanadzor, Khor Virap and Byurakan have been awarded with prizes.

Additional seminar on the theme of “the role of basic education for teenagers” has been organized in communities (Ararpi, Martuni and Jermuk) for working groups.

Meetings with focus groups have been organized in 6 communities. During the meeting the participants had active discussions and suggestions for the further development of the project.

We continue to implement the project in above mentioned communities that has its progress.  90 beneficiaries from 6 communities participated in the project. 2014 was more productive year for our organization fundraising which will help us to enroll more beneficiaries for “Providing Education for 150 children in Armenia” project.

We can provide several regional blogs where their works are being presented. As we have working groups in 10 communities of 10 regions and the project has been implemented in 6 communities we have foreseen to implement “Providing Education for 150 children in Armenia” project in 4 regions (Armavir, Kotayk, Tavush and Syunik) as well.  These are the most remote regions in Armenia. We must train the working groups in 4 communities, recruit 15 teenagers from each community, implement questionnaire for the assessment of educational level of the teenagers, organize trainings 12 hours a week and feed them during the trainings.

Dear supporters and GlobalGiving team, It is very important for us to know your opinion about our project “Providing Education for 150 children in Armenia”. It will be helpful for the implementation of the project and you will have your input in the project which is very important for us.

Arina from Lori Region expresses her viewpoint about the project.

Hello, I am Arina from Lori Region.
First of all I want to thank the supporters, GlobalGiving and the organizers of the project for such an exciting and educational program they are assisting and implementing. I am one of the participants in the project of "Providing Education for 150 children in Armenia". During the project basic educational training was provided with interesting and new methods. That was the reason that the participants were taking part in the classes with great interest providing high value of the basic education in their life.

In the frame of the project I met good and kind people. Everything was interesting to me especially the classes organized with via games in the nature. The class about the Armenian painters was very impressive as well. We were also involved in the classes providing extra information about the topic of the lesson. It would be great if similar projects were being organized again with various disciplines.

Our progress in Vanadzor

During work time
During work time

The aim of the project was to promote youth involvement in community development process as well as to develop identification of problems, promote youth to find solutions to those problems, promote IT and media sector development, volunteer working activities in the communities.

The project "Communities Young Voice" has progress.  Young people were trained and improved their knowledge level. As a result in 10 regions we have active youth working group and in their communities they carry out research, community needs assessment and  make comments  in their blogs and social Web sites.

Thus, youth employment was increased in communities.  The level of self-confidence and self-consciousness of youth was increased, which was seen in their active work in the communities. Besides the mentioned expected results, our beneficiaries formed and developed cooperation between the beneficiaries from Yerevan.

That is what says Hasmik about project

Hello. I am Hasmik from Vanadzor.  It is already a year that I am a Manager of working group in Young Journalists Online Center in Lory Region. Within the framework of “Community’s young voice” program I have participated in “The usage of Social media in civil journalism” workshop organized by Samvel Martirosyan who is an expert of IT. Karen and Margarita, from our group also took part in the workshop.

During the workshop the first thought that came up to my mind is that the young people want to activate their community, raise various issues of their communities and find solution to solve them. Then we got acquainted to everyone.  Some of them knew each other already, others became our close friends and advisers later.

The workshop was held in free atmosphere. It was interesting to hear the opinions of our peers living in 11 various communities of our country.

Together we decided to raise the important issues that were in our communities. With the group we tried to solve those issues in the scope of our possibilities.

“Community’s young voice” project gave us opportunity to know clearly how to deal with the injustice going on around us. We had responsibility towards our citizens, our country and our nature.

After the workshop we contacted with the members of YJOC center, who are the founders of Young Journalists Online Center (YJOC). They supported us, helped to organize community groups. Except that some of them became our good friends and advisers.

«Zartonk 89» had a huge impact in the development and activation of YJOC team in Lory region with this project. The tools provided to us helped our voices to be heard.     One of the outcomes of the project is the blog of our team where we post the work done by our group.
