Kids 'n Boots 2012 Underway

Little girl with boots

Children's Emergency Relief International's (CERI) Kids 'n Boots 2012 campaign is well underway, and we are so grateful for your support! Very soon, teams of CERI volunteers will leave the U.S. to outfit every institutionalized orphan living in Moldova* with brand new winter boots, warm socks and hand-knit hats and scarves! By Thanksgiving, CERI must finalize the purchase of 7,300 pairs of winter boots! Your gift will help us reach our goal.

For over a decade, teams of U.S. volunteers have traveled overseas to personally outfit orphans in Moldova with a new pair of boots and warm socks. Donning their new footwear, orphans are invited to select their very own hats and scarves, made especially for them by a team of loving CERI friends. This serves as a fital component of CERI's boot mission, as it is the only time many of these children ever get to pick anything out for themselves.

This December, CERI teams will fit over 7,000 orphans with new boots, hats, and scarves in order to protect them against frostbite and winter illnesses, as Moldova remains the poorest country in all of Europe. We are also excited to announce that this year, ALL winter boots will be purchased from a factory in Moldova, helping working families and the local economy of this struggling nation!

Thank you again for supporting this worthwhile project! A $25 gift will purchase and deliver one pair of boots and warm socks to an orphan in need.

*Moldova is a small, former communist country located between Ukraine and Romania.

Tortillas = Sustainability

The Matamoros Children's Home (MCH) continues to be a model of excellence among non-government organizations in Mexico. Why? Because, in a nation where economic conditions are dire, the MCH serves as a resounding gong that, with God, self-sufficiency is indeed possible!

The MCH is excited to announce the delivery of its first tortilla maker on June 25! Not only will the organization's new kitchen and tortilla maker equip the MCH to expand its care to orphans, but it will allow the home to make tortillas to sell, thereby producing additional income for the Matamoros Children's Home.

The MCH has already realized great success with its farming projects as a mode of self-sufficiency, but the addition of the new tortilla maker is sure to catapult the home to even greater heights, further impacting the lives of citizens throughout Matamoros!

"Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and he'll eat for a lifetime." Your contribution to the Matamoros Children's Home is an investment in the future of Mexico!

Transitional Care, A Story of Success

CERI
CERI's Transitional Care

Transitional Care is one of Children's Emergency Relief International's (CERI) most vital programs in the country of Moldova (the former communist nation between Ukraine and Romania). As youth age out of state-run orphanages at 16 years old, CERI is able to step in and continue "parenting" so vulnerable youth do not slip through the cracks. Youth sponsorships play a vital role in CERI's Transitional Care program.

At only 11 years old Catea tragically lost her mother to a vicious battle with cancer. Almost immediately, Catea’s father remarried a woman who was the epitome of a wicked stepmother. Catea and her younger brother suffered regular beatings and were even starved for extended periods of time. In 2005 - three years into the horrific abuse and still grieving the loss of their mother – Catea’s younger brother was killed in a tragic “accident.” Moldova’s Children Protective Services responded to the case by removing Catea from the home and placing her in an orphanage.

Catea’s life seemed headed in a downward spiral until the day a CERI sponsor came into her life. With her sponsor's financial and emotional support, Catea now knows the love of a doting father. Her sponsor is actively involved in her life, and they communicate regularly and often see each other when her sponsor travels to Moldova on sponsor trips. In the summer of 2011, Catea graduated from high school and moved onto the University where she
is studying Education and English. Catea gives all glory to God for placing the right people in her life at just the right time, crediting CERI and her beloved sponsor with, literally, saving her life.

Will you be a hero and help Moldova's vulnerable youth? Join CERI's efforts and make a contribution to the Transitional Care program today!
