Update: Alex in the Child Relief & Support Program

The CERI team in Coatzacoalcos is dedicated to walking the streets of nearby colonias (impoverished neighborhoods) to deliver groceries to local families and identify unmet needs.

During one of our trips to the colonias, we met Alexander, a bright-eyed 6-year-old boy. At the corner of the “Niños Héroes" street, we spotted a house with piles of plastic bottles and old iron outside. We approached the home to investigate the living conditions there and saw the roof was made of sheet metal and the walls were merely cardboard.

Alex and his mother lived in the makeshift home. Alex’s father abandoned them, and his older brother left shortly thereafter. This made Alex start to act out. He became extremely aggressive and his behavior was troubling to his mother.

Alex’s mother supports Alex and his younger brother by gathering plastic bottles from the trash to recycle. We introduced the family to CERI, and explained how CERI could help Alex by meeting his physical, emotional and spiritual needs through the Child Relief and Support Program (CRSP).

Now, Alex is a healthy, happy child whose behavior has improved drastically. We help provide the family groceries each month, which makes Alex very happy. CERI also organizes Saturday school at his local church and Alex enjoys helping the CERI team at these events.

Our reward is seeing Alex’s bright smile!

15 Years of Winter Warmth

When I first started leading teams of volunteers to put winter boots on kids in Eastern European orphanages fifteen years ago, we encountered the most dismal and hopeless circumstances. Even though we traveled just before Christmas, it was as if the Grinch of oppression had stolen away all the joy of the season. Forget about Christmas decorations; where we went electricity, coal, and food were in short supply. But volunteers always brought lots of happiness and light with their presence and gifts to the children. Gradually, Christmas decorations began to appear, even in the orphanages – sparse but nevertheless an attempt to recognize the season.

Now when we travel to Eastern Europe fifteen years later, it is sparkling with Christmas décor. It always reminds me of the light CERI brings into the lives of those hit hard with the struggles of life. Where once there was little hope and much despair, Christ offers a solution! I know you want to be part of what we do, and I encourage you to make a generous gift in the spirit of all that Christmas means to help a child or family. You cannot know the difference your gift will have on lives, but we can give in faith believing the Lord will multiply many times over its impact. Thank you for your faithfulness.

Wishing you a very Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!

Hope for the Hopeless

This is the season when we pause to remember everything for which we are most grateful. For CERI, we pause to remember you. While so many are hurting around the world, you have been there, helping CERI to lessen the suffering. You have been faithful from the beginning, and we are sincerely grateful.

Earlier this year, CERI implemented its Child Relief and Support Program (CRSP) in Latin America. This program reaches school-age children with basic necessities and educational games and activities. We hope you enjoy these recent photos of the CRSP at work. Thank you!

Wishing you a very Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!
