Zawadi Fund International supports the initiatives of the Children and Youth Empowerment Centre, Nyeri, Kenya. In collaboration with the CYEC, we seek to develop effective and sustainable solutions for the street-dwelling children, including education and enterprise development, to enable these young people to lead fulfilling lives.
Residential Program: The CYEC's residential program is based on a boarding school model; a safe and healthy environment for 140 children who were homeless or from difficult backgrounds. The CYEC develops values and behaviors to prepare these young people for successful program exit. Education Programs: Education activities are a pillar of the CYEC initiative. All the children at the Centre are engaged in training or educational activities either within the Centre or in surrounding schools. Partnerships, Production and Program Exit: Viability of the CYEC is dependent on two interrelated factors: sustainable resource mobilization for program operation, and successful exit. Successful exit, meaning the Centre's graduates are able to take care of themselves and live economically productive and socially well-adjusted lives, is the ultimate goal of the Centre's activities. The programs and processes required for a successful exit are dependent upon sustainable and efficient resource use. A key component of preparing youth for exit is the Zawadi Youth Enterprise Program, a cooperative that young people to develop enterprises, learn business skills and save capital.
