New Direction for Organization

Thank you Global Giving Donors!

A new spring newsletter is available from the NASF website.   The front page shows pictures of the current work being done at the shelter:   http://www.newberganimalshelterfriends.org/newsletter_spring_2014_final.pdf

It's spring and improvements are being made inside and out.   Some landscaping has been started, the ordered pavers should be delivered soon and hopefully installed quickly.  The north dog kennels are almost finished.

As of July 1st, the City of Newberg has decided to eliminate the Animal Control Program from the city budget.  This has been a hard reality to face for the City and for NASF.  The Animal Control officer has been the director and mentor for the shelter volunteers.   To continue utilizing the new building and provide animal services, volunteers will continue to operate the shelter.

Please continue to support the shelter during this transition period.   The services provided by the shelter is important to the City of Newberg, Dundee and by the County.   It is our goal to insure many of these services are still available and still provide care of our local animals.

Thank you again and hopefully there will be more details about shelter operations in the next report.

New Year and New Enthusiasm

New Shelter Summer 2013
New Shelter Summer 2013

We've had a great 2013 and your donations were very much appreciated.   In March of 2013, the animals were moved from the old shelter to the new shelter.   The new shelter wasn't fully operational at that time,  but the animals needed to be moved from the unmaintained old building.  Since then, laundry equipment, refrigerator, grooming supplies and cabintary have been installed.   The lobby now has a reception desk.   Slowly, the new shelter is evolving into a fully operational service to the community.

The shelter opened the front doors to the public for 3 Saturdays in December.  It was a trial period for the volunteers, animals and public.  We were very pleased with the number of cats and dogs adopted and the number of visitors.   We are more anxious now, to get the building completed and fully functional.

There's outdoor fencing, dog and cat kennels to complete, a grooming room that needs a tub and other equipment needed to complete the shelter.    Please visit the shelter and see for yourself, that progress has been made and we will continue to move forward as quickly as funding will allow.

Thank you again for making 2013 a positive move for our animals.

Shelter Continuing to Improve

We are hoping to be ‘home for the holidays’ this December.  Thanks to our donors, the north kennels now have gates and as soon as the guillotine doors are installed, the shelter will house between 16 to 30 dogs. With double the kennels and dogs, the perimeter fencing is a top priority for the health and safety of the animals.

We hope to have homes for all adoptable animals by the end of the year. It’s wintertime and pets should have a nice warm home environment.

Please consider our local animal shelter project when thinking of charities this year-end. Even though the dogs and cats are housed in the building, there’s a long list of interior jobs that need to be done to finish the building, for safety and health of the animals and to enable volunteers to do their work.

Thank you for your continued support of the Newberg Animal Shelter,
