Mission

The mission of Firelight Foundation is to improve the well-being of children made vulnerable by HIV, AIDS and poverty in sub-Saharan Africa. Firelight supports grassroots organizations that help families and communities meet the needs of their children.

Programs

Firelight Foundation funds 134 grassroots organizations in Zimbabwe, Zambia, Rwanda, Tanzania, Malawi, Kenya, Uganda, South Africa and Ethiopia. Our funding model is one of partnership, we help grassroots organizations to grow with small grants over a period of up to eight years, advice about nonprofit structure and governance and ideas to help fulfill their missions and serve their community. Started in 2000, Firelight Foundation builds on knowledge gained over a decade of grantmaking to small African community-based organizations. Through an extensive vetting process and close partnership, Firelight is able to reach directly to some of the communities most in need of support from rural villages to cities throughout sub-Saharan Africa. Firelight Foundation grants are used for a range of activities that help children and families. They help families and child-headed households to start small businesses, receive HIV and AIDS testing, support and treatment, build water containment systems so that children have access to fresh water, build schools in local settings, and much much more. Our grantee partners know what their communities need, and Firelight helps them to obtain and sustain it.
