Photo of the shelter crew from our June 2010 trip to Huanchaco. We got a great deal of work done but there is still much to do and we need your help. (view small | med | large | orig)

Shelter Dog

Shelter Dog
Each day there was a new face and a new story that greeted us. So much work to do! The good news, in Huanchaco where there is still a manageable animal population - a few years of clinics and more importantly community education - we can make a huge difference! (view small | med | large | orig)

Lunchtime

Lunchtime
Perros Project Director Matt Webber assisting shelter worker Danielle with the feeding chores. Although this photo is called lunchtime it is the only meal the dogs get each day due to the cost of food for the shelter. Having had their propane tank recently stolen - Danielle prepares their food (a mix of kibble, fresh meat, broth and medicine) each day over an open fire. Surprisingly, the dogs were very patient and there even seemed to be an order to who got feed first so they all patiently waited their turns. (view small | med | large | orig)

Double duty

Double duty
Superstar Perros Project volunteer vet Brenda pulling double duty at the shelter by working on one patient with another in the wing. Yup, we even worked on a few cats while we were there. In the 5 day-long spay/neuter clinic we executed this past June - we were able to operate on a total of 85 animals! Your help can improve that number. (view small | med | large | orig)

Shelter dog Lupita

Shelter dog Lupita
Lupita is a Huanchaco street dog who found her way to the shelter 2 years ago. She was born with a bum front leg but gets around well. If it wasn't for the shelter she might not have made it out there alone. She was definitely one of the dogs who melted our hearts. (view small | med | large | orig)
