Moving forward, one step at a time.

Communities in rural Haiti are hard at work rebuilding their lives post-earthquake.  The signs of recovery are small and sometimes easy to miss – but they are there.  Take for instance members of the Center for Plantain Propagation (CPP) in Northwest Haiti.  This cooperative of over 1,000 farmers is teaching members the cutting edge PIF method for cultivating and planting plantains.  This is allowing farmers throughout the region to harvest bountiful crops of plantains that they can sell in the markets.

Haitians are looking to strengthen their economic livelihoods after the earthquake and the CPP is a perfect example of how communities are working together and making this goal a reality.  Thanks to your support, the Lambi Fund of Haiti is continuing our partnership with the Center for Plantain Propagation and entering the next phase of the project.  Here, members are looking to increase the value of their goods by transforming raw plantains into processed goods like plantain chips - which they can sell at a higher price.  These tasty snacks are incredibly popular throughout Haiti and organization members have already began selling the chips at local schools and markets.  By supporting community-run enterprises like these, you are helping Haitians improve their livelihoods and strengthen local economies.  Now, this is where the rebuilding really begins!

Breeding towards sustainablity

Baby piglets
Baby piglets

First off, Lambi Fund would like to say mesi anpil!  Thanks to all of your generous donations, this project is incredibly close to being fully funded.

The 55 members of a local grassroots organization in Kasis, Haiti are currently working on moving their pig breeding enterprise towards sustainability.  Lambi Fund has nearly reached our goal of purchasing 27 pigs for the project.  After a series of organizational training, bookkeeping, animal care, and seminars on pig breeding, members are beginning to breed pigs and offspring of healthy piglets are being born!  As the members in Kasis are learning, it takes much more than the birth of piglets for a successful pig breeding enterprise.  They must regularly check up on and care for the animals to ensure they remain healthy and everyone in the organization must work together to manage and run the project.  As we speak, members are learning what works best and agreeing on each individual’s duties and responsibilities.  For instance, an important decision they are making is to determine which piglets each member will receive once they are born.

As the Lambi Fund of Haiti approaches the final stages of this project, we would like to thank you for your continued support.  Please consider helping this project become fully funded, by sharing this with your friends and family.  Lambi Fund’s work is not yet complete as we work with members in Kasis to monitor problems as they arise, continue training, and purchase more pigs for training.

Working towards sustainability

Grassroots org that received emergency relief

It has been over a year since the earthquake and communities throughout Haiti are continuing to recover and rebuild.  The Lambi Fund of Haiti has worked with grassroots organizations to provide emergency relief grants to communities in need, teach sustainable agriculture methods to increase crop outputs and to replenish community microcredit funds so that Haitians have access to affordable loans to invest in small-business enterprises.

Watch the video below of two women’s testimonials as they discuss the impact of Lambi Fund’s emergency earthquake relief program on their families and communities.

An Earthquake Survivor's Story.

Your support in helping provide displaced families with food and basics following the earthquake is immensely appreciated. Mesi anpil!
