300 Green Rhinos make a promise to save Sundarbans

The Green Rhinos on K-Plot island
The Green Rhinos on K-Plot island

Dear Donor,

We are very excited to let you know that we launched the Green Rhinos Program on the remote islands of K-Plot and Maipith in the Sundarbans on 27 and 28 April 2012!!

We launched the Program with the 300 students who were the recipients of solar lamps, which is another project on GlobalGiving http://www.globalgiving.org/projects/solar-lamps-for-students-in-sundarbans-india/. These students, from Grades 7 to 12 from eight local schools, were initiated into the Green Rhinos Program, with a power-point presentation/ talk on nature in the Sundarbans, the people and their relationship with nature, the environmental issues facing this fragile ecosystem and how students can protect the Sundarbans.

ASED will work with these students for the next eight months so that they can experience their ability to make a contribution to the conservation of this fragile ecosystem, here and now.

We will conduct leadership training for 5 students and mentoring training for 2 teachers from each of these schools on May 22, 2012.

Thank you for your support to make this possible!

300 solar lamps to be given to students!

Dear Donors,

We are getting ready to hand over 300 solar lamps to students in the Sundarbans very soon!

On 27 and 28 April 2012, 300 students from local schools in the Sundarbans will receive solar lamps. Handing over ceremonies will be held at two locations. The students who will receive the lamps will also be encouraged to join the youth nature leadership program that ASED runs called the Green Rhinos Program. Towards this goal at the lamp handing over ceremony, the students will receive an orientation on the natural treasures the Sundarbans harbor, the threats faced by this fragile ecosystem and how they could play their part in protecting this ecosystem.

Thank you dear donor

Dear Donors,

The Green Rhinos Program Team is busy with developing the curriculum for delivery to the middle-school students who will be enrolled in the Program. We are also exploring designs for the Teacher Training modules so that more and more students can be reached through their teachers.

Our fundraising efforts are also on in full swing! We are happy to let you know that we raised close to $1000 on the Global Giving Bonus Day, March 14, 2012! We still have a long way to go so do spread the word among your friends and community.

In appreciation of your support Andrew Sundling, our Green Rhinos Social Media partner, has designed a poster for you! You can take a printout and display it if you wish!

Enjoy the poster!
