Programs

Senhoa has 3 main programs: 1) LOTUS KIDS' CLUB, 2) JEWELRY AND LIFE SKILLS PROGRAM, and 3) CCPCR LOTUS HOUSE 1. LOTUS KIDS' CLUB In partnership with Million Kids, Senhoa opened a preschool and community center as a human-trafficking prevention project. The Lotus Kids' Club is located in the Banteay Chas area on the outskirts of Siem Reap, Cambodia. Families here predominantly earn a living by collecting recyclables from local garbage disposals. With an average daily income of 5000 riel ($1.25 USD), the community lives in a dire state of poverty. To escape financial hardship, families are vulnerable to selling their children to human traffickers, who promise a better life for their children. In addition, women are often at risk for domestic violence due to these stressful living conditions. Objectives The Lotus Kids' Club aims are to: Educate children and families in the community about: 1. the importance of education 2. the danger of human trafficking 3. the detrimental effects of domestic violence 2. JEWELRY AND LIFE SKILLS PROGRAM The Jewelry and Life Skills Program is a holistic program that 1) works with vulnerable young women to prevent them from entering into the commercial sex industry, and 2) prepares survivors of human trafficking for reintegration. Objectives The objectives of the Jewelry/Life Skills Program are to: 1. Provide our students with income generating opportunities 2. Support safe-house retention for survivors of human trafficking 3. Prevent vulnerable young women from entering the commercial sex industry 4. Develop our students into desirable employees and productive members of society 5. Instill our students with an in-depth sense of self-worth 6. Assist in job placements after graduating from the program 3. CCPCR LOTUS HOUSE In partnership with the Cambodian Centre for the Protection of Children's Rights (CCPCR), Senhoa established the CCPCR Lotus House as a transition house for girls who are reintegrating into society after long-term institutionalized care and completed vocational programs. Research has shown that reintegration is the hardest stage for survivors after being rescued from human trafficking. Many victims of human trafficking, especially those who have been sexually abused, have a hard time understanding how to assimilate into society due to stigma and limited job opportunities, and return to a life of exploitation. Objectives The CCPCR Lotus House objectives are to: 1. Provide subsidized housing to survivors and to give opportunities for survivors to practice and grow into independence. Survivors in our program are able to actively participate in their own recovery process. 2. Create a supportive network of residents and in-house staff 3. Promote a sense of responsibility for their own future within residents 4. Assist in job placements
