Case Study "Nadi Filter saving life of poor village communities" at village Roshan Kohli:

The flood affected area of Village Roshan Kohli. Tehsil Matli, District Badin Sindh Pakistan submerged in flood water during floods 2011 and 100% houses damaged, crops burned and poor village communities lost their all, after settlement or returned villagers to back to their native houses, facing difficult situation over drinking water.  During initial visit by AHD staff and survey of village Roshan Kolhi was very upset to see that poor villagers drinking contaminated canal or flood water for their family.  

AHD staff visited Roshan Kohli village and conducted the survey and identified problems. Through immediate action they arranged quick training for some 30 members of the village Roshan Kohli and distributed them with Nadi filter units. At present villagers using safe drinking Nadi filter units provided by the AHD through Global Giving support near Matli area and since Dec 2012 all villagers have to access to safe and clean drinking water. There are about 105 families using safe drinking Nadi filter water and saving lives of their family women and children. The village Roshan Kohli very happy and thankful to AHD & Global Giving donors.

AHD staff confident for the provision and distribution of Nadi filter units in more families for the provision of access to safe and clean drinking water and hope donors and supports of this project will once support again to donate for the flood victims in Pakistan and hope through you all support we will be happy to complete target of 10,000 families within the year 2013.

SUCCESS STORY of Cooking Stove by Mrs. Shanti near Matli

Mrs. Shanti w/o Jewan Dass age 36 years, resident of village Kermshi Kolhi near Matli. The village has more than 73 families and they are using traditional stove for cooking purposes & the wood is also the responsibility of women to pick from outside the village. As huge work burden the health of the village women has been effected and major problem across smoke has affected the eye of  Mrs. Shanti and no of women and children of the village Kermshi Kolhi . women get up early in the morning and work all the day by preparing breakfast, lunch and dinner and also contributing in agricultural lands as well as care of animals and their grass all work done by village women. The traditional stove hasn’t any chimney and proper place for exhaustion of smoke. Since AHD staff conduct visits in the village during early 2012 and introduced  their FES cooking stoves in the village of Kermshi Kolhi. Mrs. Shanti helped AHD staff and learned cooking stove construction. She also the core group members of the village women group. FES cooking stove has chimney to through smoke 5 to 6 feet high and women get smoke free coking environment.

Mrs. Shanti personally thankful to Global Giving & AHD staff for the training on FES cooking stove and now their whole family and village enjoying safe and smoke free cooking environment. She told no more eyes affected of any village women and children since June 2012 and now they will use AHD FES cooking stove in future.

NEEDS URGENT SUPPORT FOR SHELTER

Peace Greetings from Association for Humanitarian Development (AHD) Pakistan!

Success Story:

Mr. Wali w/o Gaino a resident of village Chotho Kohli Union Council No. 01, near Matli district Badin Sindh Pakistan living with 07 children and total 09 members of their family, she lost all house, crops and livestock during floods 2011 and disturbed badly in heavy rain 2012. as the floods hit hard their family and whole income their financial and health situation become very poor and they facing difficult conditions, meanwhile during survey by AHD team during March 2012 they came to know that Mrs. Wali living in open sky with her family. AHD staff selected her for the provision of shelter kits via IOM support; during May to June 2012 she got Shelter/NFI kit from AHD Pakistan and prepared her new house. She told that now she happy and living in safe place with her family, she also asking thanks to AHD Pakistan.

Furture Plan: Furthermore AHD needs to conduct fallow up visits during February to April 2013 in some 4,000 families provided with shelter kits and through fallow up and monitoring visits. This project will be helpful to visit and facilitate more families lost their houses in floods 2010 & 2011 and now through provided shelter kits they can prepare their new houses through their own hands.

First of all thanks you all for the support to our this project, as we distributed earlier 2012 shelter kits and now we mobilizing poor flood victims to construct their houses in their respective villages, hope you all quick contribution will enable us to support and visit different families to construct their houses, for this purpose we needs some 10,000 US $ quick to complete further 2,500 houses as shelter kits provided earlier
