International Disaster Volunteers (IDV)

At IDV we believe that to provide meaningful relief and reconstruction assistance to disaster affected communities around the world we have to do more than reconstruct buildings. We need to understand and address the factors that made a community vulnerable to the disaster in the first place. Our work will be organised with these factors in mind so we can effect change that far outlives our presence.

At just five, Negline has already lost her home in the earthquake and experienced extreme poverty. Her mother, Frantzcia, can only find occasional work washing clothing, so she can't afford to send Negline to school. She knows that without an education, Negline will be plagued by the same poverty which has affected her - that's why she enrolled Negline in our scholarship programme. With your help we'll give Negline the education she needs for a bright future. project reportread updates from the field

In November 2013, Angel's world was turned upside down when the strongest storm ever recorded hit her home town. Angel and her family were lucky to survive, but now they have to start all over again. One of the biggest risks to Angel is that she won't heave a place to go to school. Without a place to learn, the storm could stunt her education. We need your support to rebuild classrooms, provide school meals and school supplies to get Angel and kids like her learning again. project reportread updates from the field

Restarting school is one of the first good things to happen to 14 year old Bertrand in a while. The earthquake destroyed his home and he spent most of 2010 living in tent. He's now been able to move into his aunt's house. Even before the earthquake, Bertrand was only able to attend a few short months of school because his family couldn't afford the fees. We have the funding we need to keep Bertrand in school throughout 2013, and with your help, we'll send him to the 4th grade in 2014! project reportread updates from the field
