With your support, we’ve not only been able to continue looking after the 25 children currently in our scholarship programme http://www.edvolunteers.org/scholarships, but also gear up to expand our classroom construction and add more children to our scholarship programme.
At the Foyer d’Orelph Orphanage we’re building roofs over four classrooms. These roofs will provide safe, dry space for the 53 children who live and attend school at the orphanage and create space for more students at the orphanage’s free school. We’ll fill that new space by providing scholarships for children in the neighborhood who would otherwise be unable to attend classes.
We’ll also soon start work at another local school, Institution Classique. The school is attended by almost 200 children and already provides scholarships for ten community children who would not otherwise be able to enroll in school.
However, because the earthquake destroyed the school’s security wall and several roofs, the children are often in class without proper protection, and the entire property is insecure. Adding to the school’s problems, the entire property is very prone to flooding, putting all the children at risk of water borne illnesses.
We’re planning to reconstruct the security wall, install a drainage system, and build roofs over three classrooms, giving the school room to grow.
While this project is not yet fully funded, we wouldn’t even be able to consider it without your support. Thanks so much for making our work here in Port au Prince possible!

With your support, our work in Haiti just keeps growing. We’re continuing to focus on long-term change for disaster survivors by repairing damaged infrastructure and increasing the capacity of our local partners to act even once we leave.
Our most recent new projects will achieve these goals and more. At the Foyer d’Orelph Orphanage, we’re building roofs over four classrooms. These roofs will provide safe, dry space for the 53 children who live and attend school at the orphanage, as well as space for the free school to accept more children from the area who would not otherwise receive an education.
Once the classrooms and other improvements to the property are finished we’ll provide financial support for the school, allowing at least 50 more children to enroll.

With just a few weeks left until the start of the soccer season, we’re excited about the enthusiasm of the local teams as they prepare their fields, start to practice, and organise their leagues.
That organisation of leagues has led to quite a change! This is the league’s first season since the earthquake, and they’d like to put all the difficulties of 2010 behind them by making this the biggest soccer season they possibly can, and that means a lot more teams. They’d like to see more than 900 youths playing on almost 100 teams.
With your support, we’ll be able to get these kids playing soccer in Haiti, giving them a positive outlet this summer and reminding them that even though more than a year has passed since the earthquake, we haven’t forgotten them.
