Riders for Health

Riders for Health's mission is to strengthen health systems by addressing one of the most neglected, yet vital, aspects of development for the health of Africa - transportation and logisitics. We achieve this by managing vehicles on a reliable, predictable and cost effective basis, to support the work of our partners who reach rural communities with health care and and other vital services.

Turn $50 into $5,000

In June, Riders for Health participated in the first ever GlobalGiving FilmFest – a unique video competition designed to raise awareness of GlobalGiving projects and connect them with the support they need.

More than 12,420 people watched the videos - a major step in raising awareness for the issues these projects address – and we would like to say a big thank you to everyone who took the time to vote for our project, ‘Health Care and Water for 7,000 Gambians’.

Now, thanks to the generosity of one of GlobalGiving’s most valued partners, eBay, three of the projects featured in the FlimFest are to benefit from additional funds to support their life-saving work. The idea is simple – GlobalGiving will log the donations received by the FilmFest projects until 11.59PM EST on Friday July 27, and the projects with the top three donation dollars will receive an additional $5,000, $3,000 or $2,000 from eBay. These funds are only available to the projects that submitted content for the GlobalGiving FilmFest. To find out more, visit: http://www.globalgiving.com/filmfest_results.html

In Africa a child dies every 30 seconds from malaria, even though a simple mosquito net could mean the difference between life and death. Please help Riders for Health to reach more people in the Gambia with the regular health care they need to beat ill-health and poverty, by making a donation today and spreading the word to friends and family! Remember, you only have until July 27, 11:59 PM EST to make your donation count!

To find out more about the project, and to make a donation, please visit: http://www.globalgiving.com/pr/1300/proj1245a.html

Thank you!

Freedom for a Gambian village

A remote Gambian community is now benefiting from improved access to healthcare, thanks to the work of Riders for Health and the generosity of our supporters.

Located in the remote Central River Division, the rural community of Jahangka is isolated by poor roads and harsh terrain. Villagers had previously used horse carts to take people to the nearest hospital, ten miles away, but now they are the proud owners of a new Uhuru community vehicle.

Download the full report below to find out more about the Jahangka Uhuru, including how it saved the life of baby Ibrahim Jagne and his mother, Matty.

Riders for Health Zimbabwe update report – 2006

In 2006, the Riders Zimbabwe programme reached a milestone of ten years in operation. The impact of Riders’ services on the mobility of the Ministry of Health and Child Welfare has been incredible. Approximately 90% more health workers are now using vehicles to reach their communities, while the annual motorcycle fleet maintenance cost per thousand people reached by those health workers has dropped by 62%.
