KIDS FOR KIDS aims to help children living in remote villages in Darfur, Sudan who live lives of inexcusable hardship and to give them the chance of a better life. We seek to enable families to stay in their villages in the midst of the conflict by helping to improve their lives and livelihoods and lifting them out of poverty. Our long-term aim is to give Darfur a chance by sustaining villages as vibrant institutions - without this people living in the camps will have nothing to return to once peace is restored.
KIDS FOR KIDS conducts integrated sustainable long-term development programmes to assit communities to get out of poverty. The main activities supported include goat and donkey loans accompanied by training in improved animal husbandry methods; training of paravets and provision of a revolving veterinary drugs fund in the villages; training of village midwives and first aid workers; provision of improved water supplies; support to improve agriculture in the form of seeds, ploughs and training; provision of blankets and mosquito nets; support for the growing of forest tree seedlings and the establishment of community forests by the communities and a new initiative - the provision of improved kindergarten buildings and equipment. All activities are identified and managed by the communities and village development committees and animal loan committees are set up by the communities and training is provided in management and accounting to enable them to run the programmes effectively.
