The miission of the organization is to strengthen the capacity if culnerable people. particularly women and youth in rural Africa for self-sufficiency. Nascent Solutions believes a cooperative vision is crucial to enacting social change and welfare. We seek to form partnerships, with educational, scientific and environmental institutions that accept the responsibility to participate in utilizing their expertise to empower and improve the lives and welfare of fellow humans, in cost effective and sustainable ways. To this end, the organization provides services through formed working partnerships, with a growing roster of exemplary and dedicated educational, social-welfare, religious, governmental, charitable and non-profit organizations and institutions. Our values are Respect for our beneficiaries, Accountability, Fairness and Transparency. Our principles of operation are simple methods and approaches that break barriers of intimidation and reduce the social distances that separate our clients from the rest of society. Nascent is currently registered as an international Non-governmental organization in Cameroon, Uganda and Zambia. Our areas of focus are: care of orphans and vulnerable children, food security and nutrtion, maternal and child ealth, the protection of the rights of the woman and teh child, literacy and skills development.

Programs

Since 2005, Nascent Solutions had implemented nine US Government funded humanitarian and development programs to reduce poverty, health and sustainable community self-sufficiency. These include: Increase awareness on and Increase capacity of the community to prevent HIV/AIDS Increase the access of target beneficiaries to basic needs including food, educational material, shelter and clothing apparel Increase the access of medical and health professionals to medical equipment and health supplies Increase knowledge of health and social workers to support orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) and victims of Sexual and Gender based Violence (SGBV) Since 2006, Nascent has worked with local partners and government agencies in Cameroon and Uganda to: Provide food assistance to over 100,000 food insecure families and vulnerable children in the North West Region of Cameroon, and Northern Uganda including orphans, and malnourished children 6-24 months Trained over 20,000 mothers and caregivers on nutrition and sanitation As a sub recipient, Nascent advertised, interviewed, recruited and managed 19 of the 21 project staff who, with backstopping for its HQ, and oversight from 3 staff from Counterpart international, worked with local stakeholders and the target community to: Supervised the transportation storage and distribution of over 3, 000 metric tons of project commodities Developed training curricular and training materials for food preparers and Commodity management committees Trained 2700 cooks, who prepared and served 5, million meals to over 30,000 direct beneficiaries Developed health & nutrition curriculum for schools, training 274 community volunteers on child nutrition 412 volunteers on growth monitoring & counseling Constructed 45 school latrines Established 50 school gardens, training 329 individuals on modern crop production techniques. With support from the Global Giving Foundation, Nascent launched a project in the North West region of Cameroon in 2012 to combat trafficking in Persons (TIP). The project has since: Organized community-wide campaigns in 13 villages to sensitized women and community in general on the harmful effects of TIP Developed and implemented radio round tables on the prevention of TIP Identified and trained TIP Vigilante groups in two villages Intercepted and rescued several TIP victims Identified and is supporting five very need TIP victims In 2011 Nascent partnered with the world food Program to improve the livelihoods of refugees from the Central African Republic in the east region of Cameroon under this program, Nascent: Used the food-for-work approach to work with pastoralist to construct water points for their animals and with farmers to construct fences to protect their crops Distributed take-home to over 200 refugee and host families Provided training in basic reading and writing to refugee over 500 women
