Moving Forward

First Dorm of Zorokoro Complex
First Dorm of Zorokoro Complex

Your contribution is at work!!!!!!  Construction of the first dorm at Zorokoro is almost complete.  We are on track for a June 2013 completion of our new dorm which will allow us to double the number of supported children.  In the meantime, we are also getting ready for our farming season.  Work is well underway to prepare the farm to receive the seeds at the drop of the first rain.  This year we will be growing corn, millet, beans and peanuts.

Starting at 9:00AM EDT, GlobalGiving will match up to 50%, donations of up to $1,000 made to our project.  Matching will last until funds run out or until 11:59PM EDT.  Please get your donations in early!

Please donate today.  Our work is only possible because of your generosity.  Mali’s vulnerable children are even more marginalized today due to the country’s insecurity.  Thank you for supporting our efforts towards attaining our vision.

Our new water tower
Our new water tower

Construction is moving at Zorokoro.  After completion of the well, we now have a water tower, and are shifting our efforts to the installation of the solar powered pump that will allows us to (1) provide water to the children and the community at large, and (2) start building our first dorm.  According to Mali’s interim president, Pr. Dioncounda Traore, in Mali’s crisis women, girls, and children are the most affected groups of the society. We are building the new dorm to increase our capacity and support more vulnerable children.

Meanwhile, the farming project is also underway and getting ready for a productive season.  We have commenced preparing for the rainy season which will allow us to produce more vital nutritious products for the vulnerable children that we care for.    Thank you for your continued support.

With your continued support our children are striving every day.  The children are adjusting to the change environment from the public school system to the private school system.  This new challenge had initially led to some setbacks, which the children have quickly surmounted.  Success rates are astonishingly positive.  Koro, has come up to the top of her class and Diakassan who had never had the chance to attend school ranked number 4 on her first ever report card.  We care closing the gap for these children thanks to your support.  Our children currently study on the floor at home (see pictures).  Our biggest challenge now is to afford them tables and chairs so that they can study in better conditions.  Thank you for helping us help them.
