Mid Year Review

Children at the Christmas Party
Children at the Christmas Party

The children have adjusted and learned the proper dietary habits.  In addition to the three meals, the children are now receiving vitamins to supplement their diet.  This has led to much less medical complications with the children.  They have also learned to share: if at the beginning, the children were fighting for the meals, and running away with the pot that is used to serve all, they now know that they will always have meals to their satisfaction and have learned to share with other. The highlight of the end of the year was the Christmas Party that we organized for the children.  In mid December when shown a picture of Santa Claus and asked what it was, they responded that Santa Claus was "an alien midget".  A week later, the same children were singing Christmas Carol in French and English at their Christmas Party.

Mid Year Review

CEO accompanying children to school, Dec 2010
CEO accompanying children to school, Dec 2010

The children just finished their second semester, and are now on a one week break.  They will be visiting their extended family during their break.  We will be reporting on their report cards later when we receive them, but the comments from the teachers are greatly promising.  The extra curricular classes that they are taking are reply paying huge dividend. We have found that the physical education that the children are taking (basketball and taekwondo) are having greatly positive impacts on their academic performance.   The children also enjoyed Arts and Crafts classes with board member Aissata and volunteer Leah.  Enjoy some of the pictures.

IT'S CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR TIME

CEO Taking Chilldren to school
CEO Taking Chilldren to school

Our CEO, Kadiatou F. Sidibe, and board of director member, Aissata Traore are in Bamako, Mali.  ACFA-Mali’s children will be having their first Christmas.  Though aged from 5 to 8, these children have never known any Christmas!!  Thanks to your support they will this year.   When I showed them a  picture of Santa Claus and asked them what it was, I received the answer:  “it’s an alien midget”.  This week, they learned their Christmas and holiday seasons songs and are ready to celebrate Christmas, and new year 2011.  Thank you for your generous support!

For the past several months, changes have occurred in the lives of our children: shelter, education, health care, and nutrition are all part of these changes.

In addition to regularily attending school, our children have been enrolled in after school extra educational curriculum activities: Math, French, Geography, etc... Additionally, they are taking English classes, and are enrolled in basketball practices.  This week we are negotiating with the World Taekwondo Champion’s (Daba Modibo Keita) Office to enroll the children to take classes in Taekwondo.
