Over 80 million youth worldwide are unemployed, and another 152 million are trapped in low-paying work in the informal sector. Mission

Over 80 million youth worldwide are unemployed, and another 152 million are trapped in low-paying work in the informal sector. As a result, many of them live in poverty, are unable to fully contribute their talents to the economic growth of their communities, are vulnerable to exploitation, and are susceptible to criminal activity and unrest. Generation Enterprise's mission is to empower low-income youth to become agents of economic development in slums. We use Silicon Valley startup methods to prototype and test ideas that serve or source from the "Bottom of the Pyramid", a $5 trillion + annual market that is largely underserved by business. We build out profitable businesses that create a pathway to employment and ownership. Specifically, our enterprises provide a development track from trainee to employee to technician to manager to worker-owner. It's a model that builds on historic practices of community ownership, only applied for modern market requirements. We believe in local agency. We believe in human centered design. We believe in financially sustainable solutions to the greatest social and economic challenges. And most of all, we believe in the potential of each person to make a positive impact in their community.

Programs

Generation Enterprise builds businesses that create a pathway to employment and ownership for urban youth. Over the past 3 years, we have run a half dozen entrepreneurship programs and are now scaling several businesses with potential to transform individuals and their communities. Our vision is based on generating local talent and local ownership.
