Open Days Continuing Still Going

The Team on Open Door Day
The Team on Open Door Day

Friends of Congo Lotus Care,

We continue to be committed to making quality health care affordable for all in Kinshasa. Last time, we shared news about the first baby being born in our center's brand new delivery room, and we have had several other births since then.

-Our open door days are still going strong twice a month on Saturdays, everyone in the city of Kinshasa can come in for free consultations. We offer services on a sliding scale, while we continue to work on obtaining additional funding sources. A picture of the Medical Center's Team sporting their open day t-shirts has been included!

-Right now, when surgeries are needed, we have to move patients to the few larger hospitals, which is not ideal since time is often of the essence in these cases. We continue to work to raise funds to build an operating room for surgeries, c-sections and other interventions that we can't undertake at the moment.

Your support is greatly appreciated! Please continue to help us raise funds. Share this e-mail, and join us in making quality health care a possibility for all women and children in DR Congo!

Babies & Open Door Days!

Baby Lotus!
Baby Lotus!

Dear friends of Congo Lotus Care…. It’s been a while! And a lot has happened since summer!

-We raised enough funds to complete a delivery room, just in time to welcome baby Lotus! Yes, this little bundle of joy is our first baby, born October 31st. The proud parents were so overjoyed to be first, that they named him Lotus! We were all very pleasantly surprised by their choice!

-We have set up “open door” days twice a month on Saturdays, where everyone in the city of Kinshasa is welcome to come for completely free consultations. Right now, we offer most services on a sliding scale to be able to keep the clinic running, so these "open door" days are an exciting development, and a big step in our commitment to making quality health care affordable for all.

-We still need funds to build an operating room for emergency surgeries, c-sections and other interventions that we cannot take on at this time. Right now, we have to turn people away when they need surgeries.

Your support is greatly appreciated!

Please continue to help us raise funds - Share this e-mail and join us in making quality health care a possibility for all women and children in DR Congo!

The first 3 months of 2014 at the clinic

Dear friends of Congo Lotus Care,

We have been open for about 8 months now, and we wanted to thank you helping us raise funds that have helped keep the center open up to this point. So the medical center’s volunteers, doctors, nurses, lab assistants, friends, and supporters here in Kinshasa wanted to say a HUGE thank you by sending you this group photo!

Since opening, we have seen an increasing number of women, girls and children who have received quality care every day. We have partners with two local hospitals in Kinshasa, and started receiving overflows referrals. Thanks to these partnerships, not only will hundreds of women receive ultrasounds to ensure both they and their babies are healthy, but many others will get kidney or liver conditions diagnosed, which could potentially save many lives.

We are working tirelessly to raise funds to build a fully functional maternity, delivery room, and surgical room. To that effect, Dr. Mpalata Mukanya, the main Doctor at the clinic, is currently in the US to collect medical supplies and equipment and will be returning at the Clinic on May 25th. Our next update will include details of visits to nonprofits in the Maryland area to collect medical supplies.

Until then, please stay engaged, and share information about us with friends and family!
