PROGRESS REPORT NO 4
SUBJECT: PROJECT REPORT FOR EDUCATE A CHILD CHANGE A LIFE
With the kind support, generosity and dedication of our well wishers the project is progressing well and the Trust is carrying out the objective of providing free quality education to 203 students in Defence Branch and 53 students in the new school in Junejo Town for the children of underprivileged families and also to continuously extend our facilities to accommodate additional students. We are admitting 24 students in each school at the start of the new Academic Year in April . We are steadfast in our vision to bring a positive change in the lives of the underprivileged families through education of their children. Inspite of hardship due to abnormal inflation and increase in price of uniform, books,, stationery and other support material and increase in salary of teachers, the Trust is managing the affairs of the school satisfactorily and carrying out a strict control on its expenses which was appreciated by the Pakistan Centre for Philanthropy (PCP) who revaluated our performance in 80 Parameters in Internal Governance, Financial Management and Programme Delivery and upgraded our overall score of 83% in 2010 to 94% in 2013.
We are glad to report that our Defence Branch has been upgraded to Secondary Level by the Education Department and our recognition by the Board of Secondary Education is under process. We have started Class IX, established a science lab and submitted enrolment forms for 10 students to the Board of Secondary Education. Our first batch of students who were admitted in Tooba High School appeared in Matric Examination and all 3 girls got Grade A. The result of our second batch of three students who took the Class IX Board Exam is expected soon. Both the schools reopened after vacations in August. The Independence Day function was celebrated enthusiastically. After the flag hoisting ceremony, students delivered short speeches on the significance of the day. The students also presented tableaus and national songs on this occasion. Chocolates were given to the children. It was a very enjoyable function. Eid Fun Fair was held at the school premises on 3rd August. There were many food and games stalls arranged by teachers and students of senior classes. The Fun Fair was also attended by mothers of all the students. A Picnic Party at Cozy Water Park located near Super Highway was organized. The favourite slides included the Tube Slide, Transparent tunnel and the giant slide that zips you down 250 feet
PROGRESS OF CIVIL WORKS OF NEW SCHOOL BUILDING:
The constructional work for our purpose build school is progressing well. After sub soil investigation upto depth of 65-80 feet, the approval of Architectural drawings was obtained from the Sind Building Control Authority (SBCA) and then structural drawings were submitted, which are being vetted by SBCA appointed Engineer. In the meantime the Piling Contract was awarded at approx cost of Rs 7.5 Million (US $ 75,000). The Architect is now working on tender documents for construction of 3 storey building for the first school with an approx covered area of 9000 sq ft.
Global Giving is continuously receiving donation for our project and have received additional $ 620/=. We are grateful to the donors for their kind gesture and look forward to their continued support in the future. We are also receiving a handsome amount from donors in Pakistan. Our Trust shows a healthy trend as its Net Assets have increased mainly due to receipt of donation of Rs 19 Million (US $ 190,000) which included donation for new school building of approx 14 Million (US $ 140,000) which includes one donor who has donated Rs 10 Million (US $ 100,000) in memory of his mother. The annual expenditure on running 2 schools has also increased from Rs 3.1 Million (US $ 30,000) to Rs 3.35 Million (US $ 33,500) last year and is likely to increase to Rs 3.7 Million (US $ 37,000) in the current financial year.
We have made tremendous strides in the field of education and have apparently changed the life pattern and out look of a number of down trodden families. With your generous support and encouragement, we will continue our efforts to bring a change in their lives through education. We would welcome suggestions to improve the progress of our Project and how we can work together to attract wider support.
PROGRESS REPORT NO 3
The first half year of 2014 has been a challenging period for us, as we not only undertook a big task of constructing a new purpose built school requiring a lot of effort and expenses, but also starting academic activities in this new school with make shift arrangements. In addition we upgraded our first school to secondary level. Through out our vision remained steady to make a positive difference by changing the lives of the underprivileged families by providing quality education to their children.
Final Examination were held in March 2014 and results announced on 07 April 2014, results forwarded to the parents and sponsors of the students on 7th April 2014 and Prize Distribution was held on 10th April 2014.
NEW ACADEMIC SESSION:
The Academic Session 2014 was started on 7th April 2014. New Nursery classes were started in both schools admitting 25 students in Askari Markaz branch and 26 students in Junejo Town Branch. The student strength increased to 205 at Askari Markaz and 53 at Junejo Town. New class IX was also started at Askari Markaz.
Both the Trust school are closed for Summer Vacation as follows.
Remedial classes for weak students in both schools are being conducted from 02 June to 21 June 2014.
English Language Development Course is being conducted from 2nd June to 21st June 2014. Teachers are participating in the course.
SCHOOL REGISTRATION AND RECOGNITION:
The Education and Literacy Department, Government of Sindh upgraded the school to Secondary level and the Board of Secondary Education recognized the school, which has enable the school to start Class IX.
RAMZAN RATIONS 2014:
As the sacred month of Ramzan is approaching, we wish every one a very Happy Ramzan which provides a good opportunity to worship and dedicate oneself to the noble causes which please Almighty ALLAH and Muslims also distribute Zakat in this month. Ever since the trust school was established we have been distributing a good package of Ramzan Rations to the parents of all our students and staff members at both the schools. As we only admit children of underprivileged families, they deserve this kind of help.
PROGRESS OF CIVIL WORKS AT JUNEJO TOWN BRANCH:
Sindh Building Control Authority has approved the Architectural Concept Plan for Ground and Two floors for the New school. The Structural Drawings of the proposed building is being submitted to the structure section of Sindh Building Control Authority for approval. The Land and Building Material Department of Karachi Municipal Corporation has been requested to issue No Objection Certificate and indicate charges for land occupation before starting the construction on site.
Global Giving has received two donation on 28 April, 2014 for $110/= which alongwith $400/= received on 07 March, 2014 will be remitted when it reaches $1000/= due to State bank of Pakistan formalities.
The sponsorship charges for most of the students at both schools have been received from housewives and retired persons. The Sponsorship for Teachers Salary to partly cover excess expenditure has also been received. We have also received donation of Rs 10.12 Million ($101230/=) in Pakistan in last 3 months for construction of the new school at Junejo Town.
PROGRESS REPORT NO 2
Trust School opened after winter vacation on 8th January 2014. As excessive holidays were announced by the Government due to adverse weather, the teaching staff had to work hard to cover the syllabus. Poetry Recitation for Nursery to Class II was organized in which all children participated. Spellathon contest was held. 161 students from KG to Class VIII participated. 42 students got 100% marks and 74 students got above 90% marks. Parent Teacher Meeting was held to review the progress of each student. Mehfil-e-Milad-Un-Nabi was organized by students of 4th to 8th Class and teachers to celebrate the birthday of Prophet Muhammad (S. A. W). A unique collection of Hamd, Naats were presented followed by Dua. All staff, students, parents, trustees, sponsors and volunteers were invited.
Registration for New Admission at Askari Markaz Branch was done and 53 applications were received in September 2013. The parents were given guide lines for Test and interview. The Tests were held in end January 2014. 24 children on Merit were selected for the next Academic Session starting 01 April 2014. The Registration and Admission for Junejo Town branch is also in progress and we expect to increase the strength of students to 60 before 01 April 2014.
School Registration by Education and Literacy Department, Government of Sindh was renewed. As we are planning to start Class IX in April 2014, Science Lab has been established and application for upgradation of the school to Secondary level is being processed.
Sub Soil investigation by 3 bore holes upto the depth of 65-80 ft was carried out and samples of soil of every 5 ft were laboratory tested. The report recommended deep pile foundation for Multi storey building. The contract for Piling was awarded at approx Rs 7.5 Million (US $ 75,000). The first Test Pile of 24 inch dia upto depth of 70 feet was successfully tested with load of 150 tons, 300 tons and 500 tons.
The Trust raised $ 18,830 in the open competition. The Global Giving foundation after deducting 15% remitted $ 16,451 and we received Rs 1,715,378. This donation included sponsorship of 12 children Part payment of Teachers Salary and remaining amount credited to donation for construction of New School at Junejo Town. After remittance of the said amount, Global Giving has received donation of $ 400 as on 07-03-2014, which is expected to be remitted shortly.
Majority of the students (Total 265) have been sponsored by housewives and retired persons. We also received donation of Rs 3.68 Million ($ 35,000) in Pakistan for construction of new school at Junejo Town.
