Programs

Work Areas: 1. 1. Entrepreneurial Development. 2. Participative Democracy. 3. Family Integration. 4. Technical Education and practical training. 5. Preservation and development of a sustainable environment The foundation is fully involved in the Santa Ana rural area located in the Island of Baru in Cartagena, under the understanding that social problems must be systemically approached. The town has approximately 3.792 inhabitants according to the Green Book: Cartagena de Indias, Locations, Territory and Population of year 2006 (Data from the District Planning Secretary Office of Cartagena de Indias). Some of the projects we are currently executing or we have executed are: 1. Improve school activities management in Santa Anas school: This project seeks to improve the quality of the educational service of the Santa Ana's Educational Institution strengthening the processes that make up school activities management (directives, pedagogical, school and community atmosphere ). 2. Palabrario Cartagena de Indias: Its objective is to develop a model that allows improving reading and writing competences of both teachers and students from pre-school to fifth grade in Colombia's educational institutions. 3. Construction of sanitary facilities in the Santa Anas School: Its objective was to improve the physical infrastructure of the sanitation units of the school, as well as the environmental hygiene conditions.4. Technological scholarships: The Foundation have granted 2 technological scholarships with the purpose of facilitating access to good performing low income students to higher education and foster their entrance to the city's productive system. 5. Productive backyards: It is a project for food security, income generation and environmental protection in which people are trained to plant vegetables in their backyards that then they sell to the Hotel Decameron Baru. 6. Young Entrepreneurs of Colombia: We have granted 7 credits to Santa Anas and Ararca's young people with clear business ideas, prior training. 7. Surgical - Medical health Brigade: For five years in a row, we have carried out a Surgical-Medical brigade in Santa Ana, with the support of many entities that joined this activity. 8. Nutritional Recovery: This project seeks to improve health and nutrition of students diagnosed with malnutrition. The nutrition and dietary school of UNISINU supported us with the diagnostic and beneficiaries selection, the design of the minutes, beneficiaries follow-up and workshops on healthy eating habits. This project is support by Cargill Americas. 9. Life Center por Santa Ana`s Elderly People: Approximately 127 elderly from Santa Ana, receive food on a daily basis, learn how to read and write and are trained on productive activities such as vegetable cultivation. 10. Social Communication Center: The social communications Center is a space set up by the Foundation in Santa Ana to (i) identify the needs of the population (ii) agree with the community of Santa Ana the social development projects to be executed for their own benefit in response to their lacks. It has 2 computers rooms where we train the population on I.T and when these rooms are not being used for classes, Internet service is provided for the town's inhabitants. It also has a training room where we carry out the meetings with the community and where different trainings are given by us and by other entities. 11. Following Don Hernan's legacy, the Foundation promotes and supports the actions of the Political Science Institute Hernan Echavarria Olozaga www.icpcolombia.org, founded by Don Hernan. 12. Cienaga La Estancia: The foundation is asking to the Ministry of the Environment and Sustainable Development the license to contribute with the restoration of the natural flows of the Cienaga La Estancia located in the Island of Baru, by removing accumulated sludge, preventing the appearance of sediments accumulated inside the swamp and not allowing the occurrence of sediment dragging that is deleterious to the coral reefs causing alterations to their health. 13. The Foundation is now working in a training school for the Baru Island, a project that seeks to design, construct, provide and operate a training school that responds to the tourist vocation and construction needs the Island has, offering technical, technological and complementary training.
