The Nawaya Network

The Nawaya Network aims to connect promising disadvantaged youth with mentors, businesses, and institutions, to help them pursue skills or passions that would otherwise go unnoticed. We believe that by enabling at-risk youth to pursue their passions, they will be less likely to engage in violence, crime, and drug-use. The Nawaya Network is a new non-governmental, non-discriminative non-profit organization that discovers hidden potential, connects youth to worldwide resources, and empowers future generations. Mission

We operate by deriving youth from pre-established NGO partners, and connecting them to local resources (such as classes, workshops, mentorship sessions) provided by partner individuals, businesses, and institutions. So far, 25 youth have been enrolled in our program, with 25 others identified for future enrollment. Founder of The Nawaya Network, Zeina Saab, recently spoke at TedxBeirut. With upcoming February fundraisers in Vienna and Dubai, we plan to expand to the region as soon as resources permit. The Nawaya Network will launch in March 2013 with a unique and interactive online platform that allows users to connect youth with needed resources - all with the click of a button.

Programs

Through our Mentorship Program, we train and generate a unified sector of highly qualified individuals, both mentors and mentees. Our Mentorship Program is the first to serve marginalized youth in the Arab world. Mentors undergo a qualitative application and interview process, and are required to partake in a monthly Mentorship Training Session, led by local professional trainers-psychologists, social workers, and educators. Once selected, mentors attend an Orientation Session to meet their matched mentees. Selected mentors commit to a minimum of 6-months participation in the Mentorship Program. As Members of The Nawaya Network, mentors receive an array of benefits, from the Mentor Discount Card to access to networking events and employment opportunities through our Business Mentorship Program for excelled mentors. Mentoring positively impacts the community by creating new constructive relationships and increasing respect in the community. Engaging young people to build their confidence and skills ensures their future positive impact on the local community. Matching mentors and youth with a common passion, helps young people learn to connect with one another irrespective of their political, religious, ethnic, or socio-economic backgrounds. The Business Mentorship Program assigns mentors to Nawaya Network Partners as business mentors to advise them in their respective career fields. After four months of successful mentorship, mentors from the Mentorship Program are selected and given access to Nawaya's Network as a means to help them further succeed in their professional domains. Biannual networking events with local CEOs and business leaders will take place through our collaboration with the Beirut Creative Cluster. The Friends of Nawaya Project encourages students from Lebanese and Arab University Clubs abroad (mostly the U.S.) to participate in various programs provided by The Nawaya Network. The Nawaya Network does not just recruit local university students to join the Mentorship Program. Mentor Abroad offers an alternative summer program that gives Lebanese (or other) students worldwide a chance to give back to their local communities or gain a cultural experience during their summer vacations. The Intern Abroad Program provides an opportunity for students to seek various internships with The Nawaya Network, especially within the Research Division. Research Interns will be working under the guidance of the Beirut think tank, Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs, on studies ranging from Arab youth empowerment to socio-economic development. Also, The Nawaya Network encourages young professionals across the globe to contribute academic papers regarding youth in the Arab world for online publication to The Nawaya Network Research Database. The Olympic Training Program provides advanced athletic youth the resources necessary to achieve advanced levels of sports competition. Athletes must be unable to otherwise attain or sustain the resources necessary to train in their respective sport, without the help of The Nawaya Network. The Olympic Training Program includes all sport activities that are internationally recognized and provide international opportunities for competition. Currently, Lebanese Olympic swimmer Katya Bachrouche is the first team member. The Youth Empowerment Program selects dedicated youth from the Mentorship Program to participate to develop their leadership skills, care for their environments, and implement positive intiatives within their respective communities.
