Programs

Little Rock is an Inclusive Early Childhood Care and Development Centre dedicated to provide a nurturing environment for vulnerable and disabled children in the Kibera Slum in Nairobi, Kenya. Little Rock is founded on the belief that all children, no matter their social and economic background, are capable of dreaming and achieving great things in life, if properly nurtured. When Little Rock opened its doors on the 1st of October 2003, 12 children attended the school. The objective was to provide Early childhood schooling for children aged 1-13 years. Today, the centre has already provided education to over 600 children who attend from Monday to Saturday. Among them are 120 special needs children (e.g. disabled, deaf, Down syndrome). The children are taught and trained by 23 qualified P1/Early Childhood teachers and 12 caregivers Programs at Little Rock 1) Inclusive Early Childhood Education: for children between 3-6 years 2) Special needs units: as much as possible kids with special needs will be with the rest of the children, some need special care, with four separate classes based on age and needs - including a deaf unit 3) Nutrition care - feeding program 4) Medical-, occupation- and hydro-therapy 5) After school program - For Little Rock graduates 6) Co-curricular activities, e.g. soccer, sign language, chess 7) Income generating activities where mothers get location, materials and training to make products like aprons, bags, earrings and reusable pads, which the school sells and gives an income to the mothers 8) Day care for the income generating mothers' kids below 3 years 9) Neema Rescue House for orphans 10) Promise Keepers (Girls), Hidden springs (Boys) - teens programs about personal hygiene, reproductive health and career preparation
