Programs

ANIMAL RESCUE PROGRAM: The timely rescue and assessment of sick, injured and orphaned native wildlife with the aim of quickly getting the animal to the most appropriate care be it to a veterinary surgeon, into the hands of a trained wildlife carer or relocated back into the wild. The animal rescue program includes the co-ordination and operation of a 24 hour telephone service to respond to calls relating to native wildlife in distress. The service is staffed entirely by volunteers. ANIMAL CARE PROGRAM: To care for or arrange the care of sick, injured or orphaned native wildlife with the objective of successful rehabilitation and release back to the wild. COMMUNITY EDUCATION PROGRAM: To educate the community at all levels relative to native wildlife and it's habitat. this includes 2 parts: (1) Age appropriate formal education from kindergartens to retirement villages, the education of professionals and semi professionals such as vets, vet assistants, council workers and emergency service personal. (2) Operation of information stalls at shopping centres and a range of community events. Such stalls provide general information about native wildlife, information about the co-existence of humans and native wildlife in urban settings and provides the opportunity for members of the public to ask questions about wild life specific to the area in which they live. MEMBER EDUCATION PROGRAM: To provide a range of training to members of Sydney Wildlife including entry level training to provide new members with a solid foundation to embark on their journey of rescuing and caring for native wildlife through to specialist training to equip members to care for species with unique and complex needs. FUND RAISING PROGRAM: To raise funds to assist in the operation of the 24 hour telephone service operated by Sydney Wildlife volunteers and to provide training to members and the community. Some funds raised are for the purpose of subsidising the cost of specialist food and enclosure requirements of our native animals in the care of Sydney Wildlife members.
