Full Moon Farm, Inc.

Full Moon Farm is an organization dedicated to the well being of the wolfdog (wolf hybrid). Situated on 17 beautiful mountain acres in Black Mountain, NC, we operate as a federally recognized 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization for abused and refused wolfdogs who find themselves in need of love, shelter, and care through no fault of their own. Full Moon Farm provides a safe haven for animals that cannot be placed into homes for the rest of their lives. Our rescued wolfdogs come from animal control agencies, closed breeding situations and occasionally, an owner in crisis. We evaluate each animal upon intake and work with them at their level of comfort. Some animals are "hands off&q...

Achilles' Habitat Happiness!

Under construction!
Under construction!

Land cleared, posts in and a big shout out to Warren Wilson College and their Service Learning Department!  We had many senior students complete their service learning requirement at Full Moon Farm throughout the spring, and made some great friends too.

Building safe and secure enclosures are difficult in the mountains, so extra precautions are always necessary, such as posts closer together, overlapping fencing, double layers of fencing, extra staples and extra hog ring fasteners.  For an animal such as Achilles, lean ins are necessary, as is a double gated entry, allowing for feeding and watering to be completed without entering the enclosure.

Achilles' new habitat is a work in progress, and when completed, it will be safe, secure and enriching!  At over 1500 square feet, and set on a slight hill, he will be set off the main tour area, and not have close neighbors.  His shelter will be experimental, but it will allow him to get up on it, and survey his kingdom!

Here are some pictures of the 'work in progress', and we hope that you enjoy them.

Update - Materials purchased

Wood we cleared for Isabelle and posts bought
Wood we cleared for Isabelle and posts bought

In our clearing, a lot of poison ivy, briars, diseased trees, and low branches were removed.  We did find a few lady slipper plants to relocate to a safe area though!  We are grateful to Warren Wilson College, AB Tech and a private boarding school for young women for giving their time to assist with the clearing.

(We did get Achilles habitat completed and it will be posted in another update.)

Currently, Isabelle is being introduced to Buddy, and hopefully they will become best friends and will cohabitate together in the new enclosure we hope to have completed soon.

Cross your paws that they like each other!  Arrrooooo!

Thank you all for your support!

Habitat for Howlers has been fully funded!

New Habitat started with materials on hand
New Habitat started with materials on hand

Howllo!

Many thanks and joyous HOWLZ from all of us at Full Moon Farm!

We are so happy to report we are fully funded, and looking forward to the 2 new habitats being constructed and 2 being rebuilt.  We have started one new habitat with materials on hand, picture attached.  Take off's for shelters are being completed, and we hope to include some 'vertical enrichment' in the enclosures.

Local Charter School students will be coming out on MLK Day to work on land clearing for one habitat in the woods!

We are hoping to have students from Warren Wilson College assist with this project, and will know more after our meeting on the 26th of this month.  Fence building weekends will commence in February, weather permitting.  Wagner Tree Experts will be donating labor for tree felling and pruning to assist us with this project too!

If you are in our area, please contact me nancy@fullmoonfarm.org to assist with Habitat Building, or for a tour.

In gratitude,

All of us at Full Moon Farm
