We train volunteer married couples to be marriage coaches and then we place hurting couples with those coaches to facilitate lasting postive change within marriages and families.
Our program is the Marriage Coaching process. We host free marriage coach training workshops all around the country that train interested volunteer couples how to become skilled marriage coaches. Once vetted, coach couples are then assigned waiting couples for either pre-marital, enrichment or distressed marriage coaching. Our program seeks to improve the communication between spouses so families experience less stress and couples experience less divorce. We work in 3 states at the moment, but recently received a grant from Murdock Charitable Trust to expand nationally. Our program is unique because we do the work to match couples with coaches based on multiple criteria which ensures a better fit and results. Couples go through our coaching process using our proprietary materials for 8-12 weeks 2 hours per week. All coaching is facilitated by our coaches. We have more than 230 active coach couples. More than 1,400 people have already been helped by our program from many parts of the country. We utilize Skype coaching on a regular basis to help couples who are in different cities or who cannot meet our coaches face-to-face. Devitalized couples report a 201% improvement in their marriage. All couples rate their coaching experience as a 9.33 on a 10pt scale. Our program is best explained using this analogy: We are all born onto different teams, our families of origin. We learn the plays for communication that work on those teams (conflict resolution, anger management, self-expression, forgiveness etc) and we intuitively sync with those micro-cultural norms. However, when we get married, we create a new team and our new 'teammate' may not share our process or skills in communication. What MarriageTeam does is help couples create a common communication handbook that is based on their mutually agreed upon choices for communication. We focus on practice, slowing the communication process down, conflict resolution and forgiveness so couples can discover they are on the same team - their marriage.
