Fly The Phoenix

Fly the Phoenix believes that education, as well as daily food, are basic human rights. In order to combat the imbalances of these rights, we are creating sustainable, 25-year cycle, educational community programs. These are funded by our local income-initiatives, challenges and international donations through our registered charity, Fly The Phoenix.

Cows equal education in 2012 and 2013!

Kids in the Andes
Kids in the Andes

In our projects in Ecuador in 2012, both primary and secondary education have been a huge success, especially with Plan Moo, whereby we buy a cow for a family, and the proceeds pay for most of the costs incurred with secondary education. It has been a huge success, and funds-permitting, we plan to purchase a small herd over the coming months to satiate the need for further students moving to secondary school and also to help pay for our current local teachers we employ, thanks to donations.

We also hope to be able to feed all our children a hot meal each day, coupled with a piece of fruit, thanks to our on-going Christmas Appeal. The strides the children have made in their educational process this year have been long ones, and we strive to lengthen them even further in 2013; by employing more local teachers to cut-down the class to teacher ratio is a burden we must overcome.

Thanks to all our past, present and future donors, together, as a team, we can provide unequalled education for these communities over the coming months and years. Happy Holidays to you all.

cheers

Fly the Phoenix taking over project

We would like to inform you about an exciting new development with this project in Guatemala. Over the past ten years, we have been promoting the basic human rights of full education, food and employment in communities in Guatemala. For this project, we have been focusing on providing food and essential items for the elder generation, who beforehand were simply left till last whenever there was food available for the community. Over this time, funds have been raised through the GVI Charitable Trust to cover these needed provisions. This project, in conjunction with others in Latin America, was known as the GVI Phoenix projects.

From 2013, these Phoenix Projects will be running independently as a new charity, Fly The Phoenix. If you wish to make future donations, please do continue to do so through this GlobalGiving page and have a look at the Fly the Phoenix website -  http://www.thephoenixprojects.org/. We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has supported the communities in  Guatemala through the GVI Charitable Trust, we really cannot thank you enough for your generosity. We wish Fly the Phoenix all the best in the future.

We would like to inform you about an exciting new development with this project in Nicaragua. Over the past five years, we have been promoting the basic human rights of full education, food and employment in communities in Nicaragua by building schools and hiring local teachers, whilst also investing in secondary education. Funds have been raised through the GVI Charitable Trust to cover project costs, which includes daily food and fruit, local salaries, educational utensils and construction work. Global Vision International (GVI) volunteers were also used to help with teaching in these schools
