Programs

Education Through Music-Los Angeles forms long-term partnerships with disadvantaged elementary and middle schools that lack the resources for school-wide music programs. Our programs serve K-8 grades and we currently partner with 13 schools reaching over 6,000 children in the Burbank, Compton, LA, and Pasadena Unified School Districts. Music is taught both as a subject in its own right and as a means of supporting learning in other areas. We collaborate with principals and districts to develop partnerships that employs the following components to reinforce music's role as a core subject: 1) High quality yearlong weekly music instruction for every child that is a part of the core curriculum and is sequential, comprehensive, and standards-based, 2) Integration to support learning in a range of academic areas, 3) Professional development to improve instruction and understanding of arts education in the school community, 4) Evaluation and assessment, 5) Parent and community involvement, and 6) Long-term planning for sustaining instruction.
