Programs

1. We are a temporary place of safety that provides 24 hour care for 30 babies at a time (aged 0 - two years) who have been consented for adoption, abandoned or occassionally removed from family care. The babies are cared for in our nursery until they are placed with permanent adoptive families or in foster care. We care for an average of 70 babies each year and babies are very successfully place in alternative care. 2. We are also a place of safety for up to four pregnant girls who are destitute or in crisis. The home provides them with full accomodation and support until their babies are born, also overseeing the necessary and appropriate heath care to ensure the well being of the babies and themselves. Very often, but not always, the babies are consented for adoption. The birth moms receive counselling from a social worker to assist them in making this decision. In the past year, 10 birth moms were accomodated at the home. 3. We engage with community groups (for example schools, youth groups) to address issues such as teenage pregancy, sexuality and responsibility, contraception. School age volunteers are also able to do community service at the home. 4. We provide hands on training opportunities in professional child care for care givers, trainee nurses, nannies and so on. 5. We coordinate an active volunteer programme that brings people into the nursery to ensure that our babies receive affection and stimulation that will assist in their lifelong development.
