Mission

Called To Rescue is a non-profit worldwide organization given to rescuing minor children from the horrific crimes of sex trafficking, violence and abuse. We are dedicated to the prevention of this growing trade through education and training for youth of all ages and their parents. Statistics today show the problem of sex trafficking and victimization is growing exponentially fast, and our work will continue to be a life's work. In today's world, there are 1.2 million children being sex-trafficked every year and 27 million people in slavery in developing countries. Unfortunately, many children and parents are still unaware and uneducated about this widespread problem so it continues to grow and ruin the lives of young, innocent boys and girls. Called to Rescue would like to open a Secure Safe House. This house will have a maximum capacity of 10 girls under 18 years of age. We need very secure facilities to take the girls directly off the streets when the police need a place to bring them. These homes will house the girls from 1 day to 1 year. This high security safe house will be designed to house minor girls who have been rescued by the police and FBI from sex trafficking and sexual assault. (70% of trafficked victims are girls) We are working closely with the FBI who have stated that they can bring girls from all over the USA into our home. Called to Rescue could be the only home of its kind in the USA and will definitely become the model for the rest of the country. Since sex trafficked girls do not fit into other programs, they need special care; they have endured high trauma, beatings nightly, repeated rape (or gang rape). The healing process is slow, so the more time we can have them in our care, the more the "trauma bonding" with the pimp can be broken. Legally, the girl can be held for only 15 days, but she can stay up to 3 months or maybe longer, depending on the situation and need. Ultimately our desire is to have Awareness Training available throughout the USA: to prevent trafficking and slow down the amount of children being taken. Currently, we have a local "awareness training" program in the Portland/Vancouver area.

Programs

Called to Rescue has been formed by caring citizens to protect and rescue exploited, victimized and sex trafficked minor children. Since this problem is happening worldwide, Called to Rescue has been thrown into action in the Portland, OR/Vancouver, WA area, the USA and around the world. As early as 1989, the Romines started rescuing children who were victimized and sexually abused. Their efforts started in the Philippines and spread to Burma and Mexico. The Romines have seen hundreds of children helped and ministered to in the last 22 years. They now help over 600 children worldwide, yearly, with care, education, food and lodging. The funding comes from many churches and individuals who give monthly to this effort. Dr. Cyndi Romine began training workers in 1989 to care for severely traumatized children and setting up Safe Houses. In the last three years, Dr. Cyndi has thrown her efforts into the USA, and even more specifically, her own local community of Vancouver, WA/Portland, OR. The problem of sex trafficked minors has become epidemic in the USA, so she is using her many experiences and her extensive training to impact her home area. The I-5 corridor, which runs right through the Portland/Vancouver metro area, is one of the main circuits used by pimps to traffic children. This is known as the "Western Circuit". (The other two being the Eastern and Southern circuits.) The children are then "trafficked" back up through Las Vegas on I-395. In the two latest FBI stings nationwide, Seattle and Portland have been in the top 10 cities in the USA for trafficking minors. The protocol of "missing children" goes like this: When a child goes missing in the USA, the parents notify the police. The police then enter the child into the "run-away" category. While in that category, the media cannot be notified and the police wait at least 48 hours to move the child to the "missing person" category. In that first 48 hour period, the child can be trafficked anywhere in the world. Called to Rescue is becoming rescuers in the first 48 hours. Dr. Cyndi believes that, with the experience that Called to Rescue has had worldwide, we could establish the USA model for restoration of victims. Since there are only 150 beds in the USA designed to help trafficked victims, there is a real need for this kind of facility.
