Programs

The Fundacion Ninos de los Andes (FNA) is a non-governmental organization located in Bogota, Colombia. FNA was created for the protection and rehabilitation of an increasingly vulnerable sector of society: boys and girls living in the streets under conditions which violate their fundamental rights. Through a number of specially adapted programs and services, we offer these children real solutions which improve their quality of life and aid their physical, mental and spiritual development. We recognize them as members of society with rights. Our programs are based in 5 different areas: Rescue Patrols- 2 days a week both day and night patrols (staff and volunteers) target the most depressed areas of the city, creating a direct contact with children and adults living in the streets, establishing a trusting link with them. Travelling services we offer: basic medical and dental care, orientation and education, entry to protection programs and other institutional services. Protection- Children live in a residential environment where all their fundamental needs for development are covered: nutrition, shelter, healthcare, recreation and education. These children either have the opportunity to live in our houses until they are either adopted or of legal age. Emergency Centers- Offers immediate vital care to children and adolescents who have been found in the streets and exposed to: Child Prostitution, forced labor, abuse and neglect, drug use, and abandonment. These children and adolescents stay in our facility 24hrs day anywhere from 7-30 days. Centers for Community Assistance - These are children from families with serious socioeconomic problems, most of which make a living from recycling and prostitution. What preventative care is provided: Psychosocial Assistance (provided for parents as well), nutritional guidance (we provide probably the only proper meal they will eat that day), proper health care, recreational and educational activities. The uniqueness of this program is that it brings in children voluntarily who are not yet involved in gangs, drugs or living on the streets, but are border-line in choosing that life and we help them see that there can be a different way of life. This program works with the parents and schools in the area to find a way to help these children not go down the wrong paths. Follow-up to Social Inclusion -Currently tracking 2,500 people who have participated in our programs and who continue to benefit from access to all the Foundation's services, such as: healthcare, vocational and academic advice, legal support and temporary economic support during unemployment.
