Programs

Introduction The Sankhuwasabha Education Scholarship Foundation (SESF) is a registered non-profit organization established in Khandbari, Northeastern part of Nepal in 1997. SESF aims to create educational opportunities for children in need, particularly girls, from Khandbari and its surrounding districts. All our committee members are committed to volunteer service. We are free from discrimination among any castes and religions. Maximum utilization of minimum resource, accountability, transparency and selfless service are sour guiding principles. Many of the children that we serve have lost their father due to either death or imprisonment and their mothers lack the means to care for them independently without external support. Through a varieties of programs SESF would like to bring a change in the lives of children in needs 1.Individual sponsorship program: SESF has designed a child sponsorship program with the vision that a small amount of contribution of money and supplies can bring a change in the lives of a child in need and help be self dependent in his/her future life. Donors can select a child to sponsor through SESF. The sponsored children receive education at a private English boarding school as well as the government school: They receive money for school dress, school monthly fees, school stationery, medical treatment We currently care for 20 children, 14 girls and 6 boys, sponsored by different private donors from a variety of countries. Children are enrolled in both private as well as government schools in the Khandbari area. 2.Orphanage support program SESF raises funds to support the Child Welfare Home (CHW) Khandbari to provide 12 orphaned, abandoned and helpless kids with food and shelter, educational opportunities, healthcare. Our ultimate goal is to help prepare these children to be self independent and self-sufficient in the future so that they can lift themselves, their families, and their communities by breaking the cycle of poverty. 3.Social Trekking program In 2010 SESF established Makalu Arun Social Trek (MAST) a government registered, fully licensed social trekking company in Khandbari. MAST arranges, coordinates and facilitates community friendly social trekking around Arun Valley Makalu region of eastern Nepal in collaboration with government line agencies and the local communities, ensuring a win-win situation between host communities and the trekkers. The income generated from this business is used to support SESF children's education program and child welfare home Khandbari. Through MAST our guests will have an opportunity to trek with the help of our local guides and porters at the affordable price. The local people welcome them and provide food, drinks and accommodations services to them . In return they pay directly to their service providers. In this way 100% of the income generated by this trekking business is expected to go directly to the local people. 4.Volunteering opportunity. Our guests are also offered the chance to volunteer along the trekking route as per their choice and interest. These opportunities will be a unique and wonderful chance for them to interact with the local people and study about their authentic rural life.
