Mission

JAAGO aims to bring about substantial improvement in the lives of disadvantaged people with special emphasis on their literacy and nourishment. JAAGO works to provide international standard education to the impoverished children from families that have an average daily income below the International Indicator of Poverty (an income below 2 USD per day). This is done through a Free-of-Cost School with an international standard education curriculum. JAAGO realizes that it is not possible to expect sustainable growth and self-reliance, without taking care of the emotional and physical development of all the stakeholders. As a result, various other programs have been established gradually to ensure the continuous growth of the community physically and mentally. 'Healthy Living', 'First Aid Center' and 'Call for Hygiene' are just some of the examples of such programs.

Programs

JAAGO's focus lies on the sectors of formal education, non-formal education, health & nutrition, public/private health sector development, skill development training, rural & urban sanitation, agribusiness, agricultural extension, social justice and harmony, tree plantation, arsenic mitigation, women empowerment, anti-drug, environmental disaster management, fair trade, information technology, and many others. In order to work with all of these sectors simultaneously and flawlessly, JAAGO has divided these sectors into several individual projects. Some of these projects are described below: Free of Cost English Medium School Overview: The principal program of JAAGO Foundation is the Free of Cost English Medium School the aim of which is to provide international standard education to the underprivileged children from the disadvantaged families. There are currently around 600 such students who would have never gotten the opportunity of attaining any sort of formal education had JAAGO not taken this initiative. English has been chosen as the medium of education because JAAGO believes that making them adept in communicating in the international language would bring about sustainable development in their lives. Sustainability: The project is run by individual sponsors. Each of the 600 kids has a specified individual sponsor who contributes a minimum of BDT 100 (USD 15) per month to bear all the educational expenses for the month. Call for Hygiene Overview: The Call for Hygiene project was initiated realizing the importance of good hygiene for the students, without which their health would face serious threats as most of them live in the slum areas. Toothbrushes, toothpastes, soaps, shampoo, detergent powder, and anti-septic lotion amongst the students are distributed on a monthly basis under the scope of this program. Sustainability: The funds for this program are collected from the selling of clothes donated by the well-wishers of JAAGO. Healthy Living Overview: The Healthy Living program takes care of the students' physical condition and nourishment issues. Through this program, JAAGO Foundation provides nutritious meals such as milk, bread, butter, egg, fruits, jam, jelly to the students once every week. Sustainability: The funds for this program also are collected from the selling of clothes donated by the well-wishers of JAAGO. First Aid Centre Overview: The First Aid Centre program ensures a regular health check-up of every child enrolled in the JAAGO Foundation English Medium School. The program also provides free general treatments on a monthly basis to the parents and relatives of the students. This self-sustained project, which was initiated with the funding of NOVARTIS Bangladesh Ltd., is conducted by a veteran physician and a well-qualified nurse. Sustainability: The project is self-sustainable as the medicines are sold to the community members at the market price keeping a minimal amount of profit. Sewing Centre Overview: The Sewing Centre is a women empowerment project the objective of which is to train the women of the local community to make them self-employed. Generally, the mothers and sisters of the students of JAAGO are the main beneficiaries of this program. These women are provided training on how to make exclusive clothing materials, cushion-covers, bed sheets, etc. The finished clothes are directly exported to Australia and the proceeds are re-invested in the project. Sustainability: The project is self-sustainable as the produced clothes are exported and sold in Australia.
