Mission

The mission of the Latin American Youth Center (LAYC) is to empower a diverse population of underserved youth to achieve a successful transition to adulthood, through multi-cultural, comprehensive, and innovative programs that address youth's social, academic, and career needs.

Programs

LAYC offers over 50 programs in the following eight areas: 1) Educational Enhancement provides standards-based tutoring and homework assistance, computer literacy, and college preparation; 2) Counseling, Treatment, and Case Management matches participants with certified counselors who work to strengthen the family unit as the primary foundation for youth development; 3) Community Wellness provides education, outreach, and leadership development to promote physical and mental health and community peace-building; 4) Workforce Readiness provides employment and life skills training, GED preparation, and leadership development for youth who have not completed high school; 5) Residential Placement provides housing, case management, and support services to homeless or runaway youth or youth in foster care; 6) Art+ Media provides classes to encourage youth to experience the power of their art as a means of self-expression and a tool to explore community issues; 7) Healthy Recreation provides in- and after-school fitness programs such as Pancho Gonzalez Youth Tennis and Education Academy and MuAvete, LAYC's circuit training program; and 8) Advocacy educates and involves youth in relevant public policy debates and civic activities that impact low-income young people.
