Mission

A Leg To Stand On (ALTSO) provides free prosthetic limbs, corrective surgery, orthotic devices and rehabilitative care to children in developing countries who have lost their limbs in traumatic accidents or suffer from congenital limb disabilities. Our mission is to help transform the lives of such children by offering them the physical capabilities needed to access the opportunities and self-esteem earned through education, work and mobility. ALTSO's 3 core objectives are 1) to provide free orthopedic care to children with limb disabilities in developing countries; 2) to ensure patients receive continual care until the age of 18; 3) to improve medical knowledge and increase sustainability in pediatric orthopedic care in the developing world through training programs.

Programs

A Leg To Stand On (ALTSO) currently has 16 medical programs in 15 developing countries throughout Asia, Africa and Latin America. Our core program of Training, Treatment and Therapy is offered through partnerships with in-country hospitals and clinics. Our partners match our service costs by covering all administrative expenses, which allow ALTSO's funding to fully benefit medical treatments and maximize the number of children treated, while also increasing local sustainability. Since the inauguration of ALTSO's first clinic in Ahmedabad, India in 2003, ALTSO has directly treated more than 7,500 children in over 15 of the world's poorest countries. ALTSO's training programs have helped an estimated 10,000 children.
