Mission

Encompass works to bring together young people from different cultures and backgrounds, supporting them to become more understanding and tolerant of each other while giving them the skills and confidence to promote intercultural understanding in their communities.

Programs

Workshops - We work in partnership with youth organisations where we run introductory workshops which introduce young people to the themes of identity, community, stereotypes and conflict. Young people start thinking about the divisions they would like to address in their communities. Those interested in getting involved in more Encompass activities have the opportunity to apply for a place on one of our international programmes, and to meet young people from different cultures and religions across their country while exploring the workshop themes in more depth. International Programme - The international programme brings together 24 young people (8 from the UK and 4 each from the US, Israel, the Palestinian Territories and Indonesia) and takes place at an outdoor education centre in Wales. Through a combination of challenging outdoor activities (including hiking, coasteering, bridge-building and canoeing), facilitated discussion workshops and skills sessions, young people increase their self-awareness, develop confidence to interact with others from different backgrounds, and gain skills that will enable them to use their experience to benefit others in their communities. This is an amazing opportunity for young people to confront their stereotypes and learn about themselves as well as others. Community Projects - Young people receive support and training to develop and their own workshops and projects, based on those they have participated in with Encompass, to address divisions in their communities. Encompass is keen to ensure that young people take their experience back to their organisations, giving them more opportunities to explore intercultural dialogue and to spread the message of understanding.
