Announcing the First Annual Polar Plunge 5k Fun Run!

In 2014 the Portland Polar Plunge is adding a 5k Fun Run!

This family friendly walk/run is a great way to embrace the chilly weather and boost your energy level, especially if you are more of a runner than a plunger.

Runners will begin the 5K course at 9:00 AM, February 8 in Portland along the Columbia River and will end at the Polar Plunge site. Runners must raise a minimum of $25 to benefit the amazing athletes of Special Olympics Oregon. The first 250 runners registered will receive a pair of Nike running socks! Thanks for making Summer State Games 2013 a BLAST!

Nearly 1,600 participants and over 1,300 volunteers and coaches invaded Newberg, Oregon in mid-July for Summer State Games 2013! The athletes competed in track & field, bocce, golf, and softball.

Each athlete has their own story of the strength and courage it took them to get there, but we’d like to tell you about one particularly inspiring relay team from Josephine County, THE PANTHERS! Last year The Panthers relay team consisting of Joe, Troy, Kris, and Barry ran their pants off, or to be more accurate, ran their shoes off! The race was neck and neck when relay anchor Barry, flew out of the exchange area pulling ahead of the other team. Just when it looked like The Panthers were going to win the race Barry, who was running so fast, blew out of his shoe and fell to the pavement losing a heartbreaker of a race. This year, after placing 1st in Regionals, The Panthers were ready to prove they have what it takes to win this year. They practiced hard and won the gold medal in their division! A big congratulations to The Panthers and all athletes that competed at Summer State Games 2013!!!

Stories like this wouldn't be possible without donors like you. Thank you for your continued support of Special Olympics Oregon.

What a FANTASTIC weekend!

Summer State Games were held in Newberg, Oregon July 13th and 14th and what a great weekend it was! Nearly 1,600 atheltes competed in track & field, golf, bocce, and softball.  Although not everyone can win the gold, the consensus is that everyone had a great time trying!

We also had over 1,300 volunteers helping us with the heavy lifting, hydrating, cheering, and even a little dancing.

A huge THANK YOU to all who supported this event and other Special Olympics Oregon events throughout the year. To date, we have raised over $6,000 through Global Giving. Your support means so much to our many athletes that practice year round.
