Hard Work, By Hand
More than 60 people helped build the Santi Primary School, with simple tools like hammers, picks and shovels; a table saw was the only piece of electrical equipment. All of the stone used in construction had to be carried from nearby areas of the mountain, usually in a wicker basket carried over the shoulders, with a strap around the forehead. Then the stones were chiseled into place. Construction was completed in April 2008.
Morning Exercises
Students gather outside the school in the morning for some exercise.
