Mission

EdVillage envisions a world where all children, regardless of their socio-economic status, have access to schools that prepare them for higher education and a productive and fruitful life. EdVillage supports successful educators and education entrepreneurs that have proven they can create transformational schools and programs that prepare students from economically disadvantaged communities for higher education and life. Our mission is to help them scale and sustain their impact while enhancing the quality of their school(s) and programs.

Programs

EdImprovement encompasses EdVillage's work with existing, high-potential schools. Without regard to governance status, EdVillage looks for schools whose leaders and staffs demonstrate high aspirations and a commitment to improving their professional practice. The highly regarded School Peer Review process, based on successful school review models from around the world and created by EdVillage specifically for the South African context, is the cornerstone of our EdImprovement work. EdVillage's School Improvement Process that helps schools move along the development curve complements the School Peer Review. Our goal is to help good schools scale their impact by increasing enrollment or replicating while improving student outcomes. EdStartup includes all EdVillage's direct work with edupreneurs ("education entrepreneurs") who demonstrate strong potential to open high performing, free or low fee schools in disadvantaged communities. EdVillage's services include mentoring, technical assistance, and coaching from the school design phase to launch and through the crucial first years of a new school's existence. Our goal is to increase the supply of high quality schools available to the most disadvantaged children in South Africa. EdEcosystems are EdVillage initiatives that leverage our international contacts and knowledge base. We create and advocate for policies that help establish the conditions for rapid growth in the number of high-performing free and low-fee schools. Through strategic and selective policy advocacy, EdVillage helps shape the playing field so that outcomes-oriented educators can thrive and scale their impact. Our goal is to form policy that will help good schools become sustainable while impacting a greater number of students.
