Project's focus area: Flood Relief
Project Needs and Beneficiaries

More than 2.5 million people were displaced when the Kosi river changed course and flooded areas which are not usually affected by Monsoon floods. The situation in Bihar is expected to worsen as water levels rise after fresh rains. Roads are flooded, hampering rescue and relief efforts. ActionAId is working in Supau, distributing more than 15,000 tarpaulin sheets, 1,000 packets of food and 2,000 Oral Rehydration packets. Distribution of water, food and medicines will continue indefinitely.

Activities
ActionAid is distrubuting food, water, medicines and shelter. Our rescue efforts continue as well. "At least 10,000 people waiting on high grounds, trees and machans (bamboo platforms)" says Kishore Sama. "Please, help them."
Expected Outcomes
ActionAid anticipates providing immediate assistance to as many as 50,000 peoplw and long-term support to 10,000 through community rebuilding efforts, psychosocial support, and by providing grants to rebuild small businesses.
Project Message
"We used to walk through mud and water in the dark to fetch water. Snakes live in the water and bites are common. The water pump Actionaid installed makes it safe for us to get water."
- Laugni, 30 year-old mother of of two in Lalpatti
