Over 85% of Bangladesh’s 135 million citizens live in rural areas and their livelihoods depend mainly on subsistence farming. The goal of this project is to increase the incomes of 300 farmers by at least $250 a year. This will be achieved through helping farmers participate in commercial markets for high-value crops such as turmeric, ginger and chilies, and helping them to gain access to quality agricultural supplies, such as, seeds, affordable irrigation, fertilizer, and farm training.

Most farmers are familiar with production of a multitude of spices. IDE is facilitating training on harvest and post-harvest techniques. These skills will significantly improve small farmers’ ability to earn the best prices for their spice crops. |

This intervention will impact 300 small farmers by enabling them to increase their production and to receive higher prices for their product. The farmers will increase their income as they increase their role in primary processing of the product. |

Four years ago, I thought poverty was my destiny. Thanks to the skills I learned from IDE, I made enough to reimburse the loan, and purchase a piece of land in 3 years.
