“Talking speculum”

Group participation is a big part of the program’s success—sharing ideas and stories becomes easier throughout the four-day program. A speculum served as a “talking stick” ensuring equal time to share stories, ideas and opinions.

The Marble Game

In this interactive game of marbles, participants attempt to put all of their marbles in the center which represents the clinic- utilizing body movement, group process and visual representation of how their individual and collective actions can lead to a broader understanding of comprehensive reproductive health.

Community food sharing

The participants and facilitators share lunches during the course of the program. This simple activity reinforces the theme of “informed choices,” with lunch by buffet, of course!

Leadership board

The women are asked to create a Y.E.S! board, that talks about themselves, their future, what information and education they’ve gained from the program and what their future holds.

Clinic and outreach office introduction and tour

A tour of Women’s Health Specialists’ main clinic and Outreach/Education office is led by a staff member who outlines the goal to create a safe, informed and comfortable environment.

Participants engaged in activities

Participants fully engaged during a presentation by the Health Improvement Partnership, learning the 40 developmental assets- a framework of 40 building blocks developed by the Search Institute, that are recognized as life skills.

Young women leaders

The program focuses on the power of women joining together, the strength of knowing your body while taking shame out of the equation.

Cultural competence
