Project Needs and Beneficiaries

Nearly 50% of girls in Bangladesh, one of the world’s poorest countries, are married by the age of 15, and 60% become mothers by the age of 19. They also face insufficient access to health and education information and services and economic opportunities. This project offers 45,000 girls ages 10-19 in Bangladesh the chance to create better futures for themselves, be valued by and contribute to their communities, by strengthening their voices and becoming empowered.

Activities
This project creates safe environments where girls learn together, increase health awareness and acquire life skills and financial knowledge. We train adolescent females as peer educators and provide incentives to families to delay early marriage.
Expected Outcomes
To reach 45,000 girls to reduce age of marriage and pregnancy, support them to stay in school and seek health services, earn livings, make financial decisions, raise their voices, be valued by their communities–and ultimately reduce poverty.
Project Message
“Save the Children is delivering innovative and girl-centered health, education and financial literacy activities to more 40,000 poor girls in Bangladesh.”
- Veronica Torres, Senior Specialist, Youth Economic Opportunities
